USA-2429
RESPITE

This page is just a small sample of the photos I've taken and scanned of my first Radio Controlled sailboat the "RESPITE".

The Respite is a
Victor Model Products V-32,
She started off with a
blue hull with white main and red jib sails,
hull and sail number 2429. The RESPITE was christened 3 March 1998.

This series of photo's depicts the RESPITE sailing on the city reservoir in Altus, OK on Friday the 13th of March 1998.  Winds on that day were from 14 to 20 knots as is evident from the heeled over shots.

Each photo is linked to it's full sized version, click on a photo if you want to see
the larger version.

This is an unmodified boat as built by George Dornis of Victor Model products.
The boat comes pre-assembled with about 4 final assembly steps, besides adding batteries and water.
The radio is included and all installed.

My (then 13 year old) son learned to sail it passably in about 3 minutes.

Now I've had time to modify the deck a bit, and repaint the hull, take a look, notes follow...
Photo here
The original gooseneck was just two screw
eyes that interlocked, this allowed the main
boom to roll over at times and lock up.

I put in a second mast screw eye and ran a
small bolt down through the three eyes
v32mod2.jpg (28066 bytes)
I replaced the original hooks for the mast
shrouds with a screw eye and adjustable
clevis to clip through the screw eye
As I was doing this, I noticed the sad appearance of the original deck finish

The deck pictured here is a couple of years
old and sailed frequently

So I did a bit of a deck refinish! And hull paint/pinstripe too!
