1967 BSA Thunderbolt 650
I purchased this bike brand new in January 1968 for $995, and I still own it. It was a left-over 1967 model and was priced at a $250 discount. The Thunderbolt has a 650 cc engine with a single carburetor, and 4 speed gearbox. It is all original except the blue paint, which was re-painted in 1981 in a slightly darker color. Current mileage on the original engine is about 40,000+, and it still starts with one kick. This is an estimate, since the speedometer has self-destructed and been replaced 2 times. It has been riden from Minneapolis to Yellowstone Park in Wyoming, and to the Black Hills of South Dakota. It set the annual record at Minnesota Dragways in 1971 to 1975, at 14.30 seconds @ 93 mph. This was with an un-modified engine, mufflers off, and a deeper rear gear. Typical magazine road tests were 15.0 seconds in 1967.
