Birth Information

Church records from the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge show Charlotte Williams was christened on May 19, 1806 at St. Joseph of Baton Rouge when she was approximately 8 months old; this puts her birth date sometime around September of 1805. Her sponsors at the christening were Joseph Dallas and Marianna O'Conner. Her father was Miguel (Michael) and her mother was Mariana (Mary Anne) DeMaye. Charlotte is listed as child and heir in the estate papers of her parents (files combined into one). Also listed are her siblings John, Mathew, Elizabeth, Patrick, Sarah, and Jane. The estate papers include original signatures of the children since there was some litagation around the settlement of the estate. Charlotte's signature in these papers is the same as on her marriage bond, further confirming her parentage.

Residence

Michael Williams, Charlotte's father, appears in several early Louisiana records and was an original land claimant when Louisiana became a state. His wife Mary Ann was listed as head of household as Marianna Williams in West Felciana Parish in the Little Bayou Sarah area in the 1820 federal census with the children, so it appears that Charlotte spent her entire childhood in West Feliciana Parish, LA. Charlotte married in 1827 in West Feliciana Parish with her brother John as bondsman. Charlotte's husband appears in Madison County, MS in the 1830 census as Benjamin Jermany, and based on the ages, it appears that Charlotte's brother-in-law, John Germany, and his family live with them.

Charlotte's husband appears in the 1840 census in Kemper County, MS, and based on the ages of the family members it appears that Charlotte is with him. Their oldest son, Henry J., was born ~1828 in MS, so Charlotte and Benjamin must have emigrated to MS shortly after their marriage. The family appears in Neshoba County, MS for the 1850 census. Charlotte is listed as the head of household in 1860 in the same county. I have not been able to find her anywhere after that.

Spouse/Children

Benjamin Germany and Charlotte Williams married on June 1, 1827 in West Feliciana, LA (marriage bond). The 1850 federal census lists the following children for the couple: Henry, Joseph, John, William, Benjamin, Sarah, Martha, Willis, and Francis, all born in MS.
