Birth Information

Residence

Joseph's family seem to appear with his uncle John Germany and family in the 1830 census in Madison County, MS. By 1840 Bejamin and his family are in Kemper County, MS. The family appears in Neshoba County, MS for the 1850 census and Joseph is still with them. Joseph & Clarissa were married in Neshoba County but they had moved to Newton County by the 1860 census and were still there in 1870. By 1880 Joseph and his family had moved to Neshoba County, and appears there for the rest of the census years until his death.

Joseph joined the Confederate army in the MS 10th Regiment, Company H, in Newton County in September 1862. His wife's widow pension application indicates he was in the hospital when his unit surrendered in 1865.

Land Records & Deeds

Spouse/Children

Though I have not been able to find a marriage license, the Confederate widow pension application that Clarissa Germany (Mrs. C.H. Germany) filed indicates they married 06 Jun 1858 in Beech Springs in Neshoba County, MS. Census records give the names of their children: Sarah A., Martha E., William P., Mary C., Joseph (John) B., Ellen O., Thomas J., Minnie C., Henry J. and Irvin W. A daughter, Janie (1884-1886), was identified by cemetery records.

Death/Burial

Cemetery records indicate that Joseph M. Germany died on Christmas day, 1911. Several days later, on December 28, his grandaughter Clara Christine (Collins) Wall, daughter of Sarah Alice Germany, gave birth to her second son. She named him Reese Germany Wall. My guess is that she picked his middle name in memory of her recently deceased grandfather. Joseph is buried in Beech Springs Memorial Cemetery in Neshoba County, MS.
