Obituary of Mrs. Ben Boyd

A newspaper clipping of this obituary was found in a Bible owned by Billie Jean Richie. Although the woman's name is not mentioned, Billie Jean said this was Virdie {Shelton} Johnson's youngest sister. Date/source unknown.

Mrs. Ben Boyd Rites Pending
Daingerfield - Mrs. Ben Boyd, 72, native of the Sardis Community, Cass county, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at her home.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Reeder-Watson-Davis Funeral Home at Hughes Springs, awaiting the arrival of her children.
She was a member of Veal's Switch Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, A.B. Boyd of Daingerfield, five sons, O.W. Boyd, Mt. Pleasant; Lt. Col. T.L. Boyd, Fort Sill; Chester H. Boyd, Lewisville; Charles A. Boyd, El Paso; & James C. Boyd, Harlingen; three daughters, Mrs. Willie Webb, Brenham; Mrs. Mabel Shirley, Dallas; & Mrs. Ophelia Bodwell, Denver; 17 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren.

Inscription reads: "Presented to Childreen of Mrs. Virdie M. & Dr. G.S. Johnson by Our Mother 1947"
NOTE: Bible in possession of Billie Jean Richey, who says the handwriting belongs to her father, Bill Mayne; information was based on an interview with Virdie Shelton.
