Sports on Wheels, Inc. (SoW) was organized in 1994 by Mrs. Marcee Watkins Hopper to provide wheelchair sports and recreational opportunities to individuals in southeastern Kentucky. Mrs. Hopper is a licensed physical therapist who continues to participate in all group activities and serves as President of the organization.

Since the group's inception, membership has grown from 8 to 25 members. Our members vary in age from six to forty-six, with differing abilities from spinal cord injuries, amputations, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy.

While members participate in recreational sports activities year-round, members of the group also promote public awareness by speaking and performing sports exhibitions at local schools and community events.

SoW enhances individual lives by improving self-esteem and confidence, giving opportunities for exercise and recreation, providing a support network for individuals with similar problems, and providing positive role models for our children.
