  • Verizon Communications (fGTE) - Irving, TX

    • Manager, Infrastructure Server Planning – 2/01 to Present

      Architectural focus for all Enterprise wide Infrastructure and Server activities.  Current focus is with the planning and implementation of Windows 2000 and Active Directory for the Verizon Enterprise.  Serving as the SMS Architectural Lead for an Enterprise wide consolidation and implementation of SMS / Marimba.  Various other management and project activities as a Network Analysis for fGTE, consulting services, server standards.

  • GTE (now Verizon) - Irving, TX

    • Sr. Consultant, EITS/IT Infrastructure Planning – 6/99 to Present

      Architectural focus on Projects with consulting services to all GTE groups as needed.  Current focus is with the planning of Windows 2000 and Microsoft Exchange for then GTE Enterprise.  Various other projects as a Consulting Team Lead for Office Systems (BackOffice Products).

    • Sr. Business Consultant, Internal Network Services – 12/98 to 6/99

      Architectural focus on Projects with consulting services to all GTE groups as needed.  Current focus is the architecture, engineering and roll-out of a national NT infrastructure for all of GTE.  This infrastructure provides the WINs for all clients and servers along with the tie-in for DHCP and SMS.  Various other projects with focuses on Banyan, NT and directories.

    • Advisory Systems Engineer (Engineering Lead)  - 3/96 to 12/98  

      Planning, engineering and support of nationwide NT and Banyan Vines network with electronic messaging.  The work focus has been on new infrastructure along with new sites, primarily with external business units.  Other activities include on-going support and expansion of the existing nationwide Banyan and NT network, including NOS upgrades, mail gateways, new technology and other system / network enhancements.

  • Network Systems Engineering, Inc. (out of business) – 1/96 to 3/97 - Dallas, TX - Systems integration and support for all network topologies and network operating systems.

    • Sr. Network Analyst / Engineer  

      Contracted to Banyan Systems, Inc. as an on-site engineer for GTE.

    • Sr. Network Analyst  

      Complete network analysis, design, planning, installation, expansion, project management and troubleshooting from the desktop level up, including connectivity to the Internet.  Primary focus is on Banyan Vines networks, Banyan BeyondWare (BeyondMail), complete workflow with forms design and rules in the intranet and Internet environments.  Other integration and networking includes Microsoft NT Server and Workstation along with various other products including Microsoft Office, AutoDesk products, document management, etc.  Hardware includes use of various hubs, routers (i.e. Cisco, Bay Networks, Ascend, etc.,) remote connectivity via various hardware and software solutions. Complete project planning, implementation and execution.  Pre- and Post-Sales duties were also performed.

  • Martin Sprocket & Gear, Inc. - Arlington, TX - Manufacturer of power transmission, tools and material handling.

    • Systems & Programming Manager - 10/89 to 12/95

      Management of AS/400 & microcomputer personnel teams to accomplish corporate wide (29 Branches in 25 locations) hardware, software and training development.  Interfaced with all necessary personnel, within MSG and outside, as necessary to define, execute and complete all phases of projects.  International travel was required in this position due to the LAN/WAN activities, and the interfacing with customers and their various data exchange needs.  Editor/Publisher of the quarterly MIS department newsletter "The Information Conveyor" for three years with a company wide distribution in addition to select customers.  Employee reviews, evaluations, discipline, raises, etc. were also empowered 

Microcomputer Responsibilities: 

LAN/WANs (Client/Server): 

A Banyan Vines network consisting of nine LANS in the USA, Mexico & Canada, with a mix of desktop, notebook and remote nodes, printers, AS/400 LAN/WAN gateway, Print, CD-ROM and FAX servers. Each of these LANs also included fiber-optic connectivity to the ESAB cutting torch machines on the shop floor.  Responsibilities started with conception and followed through the analysis, acquisition, installation and training phases.

Other Hardware and Software: Responsible for the administration, evaluation, planning, acquisition, configuration, tracking and support of all microcomputer hardware and software activities for all systems.  Also included was the responsibility for corporate compliance to software copyright laws, including the composition and maintenance of the corporate microcomputer policy manual.

Application Development: Responsible for the planning and direction of four programmers for corporate software development utilizing Microsoft QuickBasic & Visual Basic.  Leading the team for the development of 14 Windows material handling and PT drive sizing/pricing/quoting applications to run standalone and on the LAN/WAN, complete with user documentation.  This also includes multi-user and multi-application database evaluation, design, implementation and maintenance for in-house and external customer use.

Training: Responsible for the planning, scheduling, instructing and courseware maintenance for a corporate-wide, week long (7-day) course.  The training courseware covered computer system basics, MS-DOS, Microsoft Windows, WordPerfect, Microsoft Excel, AS/400 Emulation and two MSG Applications.  Responsibilities also included the scheduling/planning of all meals (including socials), lodging and transportation activities for the attendees.  Other misc. training activities included such applications as Act!, PageMaker, Lotus 1-2-3, Arts & Letters, Corel Draw, Microsoft Access and various other titles, along with selected training for customers/distributors.

Support: Responsible for the MIS support efforts for all hardware and software, included project direction for an Operations Manager and two operators.  This also included user support for all levels of users, both internal and external to the company.  This included support/assistance for one small Novell, several Windows NT and Windows for Workgroup LANs in outlying facilities in addition to Banyan Vines.

 

AS/400 Responsibilities: 

IBM AS/400 F70 and Advanced Series 310 systems, along with all terminals, emulating PCs, printers, etc. An RPG and Cobol programming staff of five including one supervisor / programmer.  All order entry, sales analysis, inventory control, EDI, ISO9002, production and manufacturing applications and databases except the core financials were written and maintained in-house staff.  All financial applications were purchased applications which were modified and maintained in-house.  Activities also included user (including customer) access to data downloads from the AS/400 to various microcomputer applications.

  • Computers & Services - Farmington, NM (side job) - Sales, Installation (including cabling), Support and Training for microcomputers and applications.

Owner/Manager - 5/86 to 10/89 -All functions including the sales, installation, training and service for microcomputers and peripherals along with the day-to-day management requirements of a business.  Full turn-key systems, installation and training, including small peer-to-peer LANs (Novell and APC).  I published and distributed a monthly technical/sales newsletter.

  • U.S. Enertek, Inc. (Weatherford Int'l) - Farmington, NM - Manufacturer of Oilfield Process Equipment

    • MIS/EDP Manager - 2/88 to 9/89  - Company wide (4 branches) responsibility for the management of all AS/400 & Microcomputer hardware and software, including development. Microcomputer application development, primarily for corporate engineering use.  Microcomputer Responsibilities: All desktop and notebook systems, printers along with one small Novell LAN including the support and training as necessary.  AS/400 Responsibilities: One IBM AS/400 B40, and associated hardware with a programming staff of two and one Systems Operator.  Included the installation and conversion from an IBM System 38 to the AS/400 including the full spectrum of IBM Mapics applications (13 modules).

     

    • Engineering Technician/Designer - 2/86 to 2/88 - Managed special projects in the $100K to $4.5M range.  Responsibilities for all engineering functions for special projects, including the scheduling and follow-up of drafting functions and layout from quote to installation.  All facets of unit design, calculations, interface with customers and the scheduling of field crews for turn-key unit installation, including training for field personnel. Extensive travel was required by this position due to the turn-key installations of off-shore and in-land equipment to complete the projects.

    • Drafting Supervisor - 2/85 to 2/86 - Responsibilities of for the supervision and scheduling of up to 12 draftsman and designers (85% CAD/CAM), along with coordination of projects and associated duties to produce fabrication drawings from drafting, checking and maintenance personnel in the engineering department.  Responsible for the final interviewing, selection, evaluations, discipline and dismissal of employees as required to maintain the proper personnel for the work loads

  • Sivalls, Inc. - Odessa, TX - Manufacturer of Oilfield Process Equipment

    • Project Designer/Supervisor - 3/83 to 1/85 - Responsibilities of supervising of up to 14 draftsman and designers along with coordinating the designing, drafting, checking and follow-up of work orders for three manufacturing plants while interfacing with customers, shop and field personnel.  We wrote, maintained, and trained personnel on engineering computer applications used by all departments of the company.  When necessary, I filled in as the Project Design Department Manager along with being the interface for the National Board of Inspectors.  Supervision activities included the interviewing, selection, evaluations and disciplinary actions of drafting personnel.
