For our honeymoon in 1993, Margaret and I searched the travel guides for the ideal Caribbean location which provided for snorkeling, bird watching and most importantly, the tropical rain forest experience. This research pointed us to one of the windward islands in the Lesser Antilles known as Nature Island or Dominica. Our visit exceeded all of our expectations. Examples of Dominica's treasures include:
- the second largest boiling lake in the world;
- thermal springs - those at Trafalgar Falls offer a spectacular view down the Roseau valley towards the Caribbean;
- excellent hikes such as the hike to boiling lake which has been rated the number 1 hike in the Caribbean;
- Sisserou and Jaco parrots - the former is said to be the scone rarest in the world;
- 365 waterfalls - one for every day of the year;
- Siffleur de Montagne or Mountain Whistler;
- Callaloo soup, Crapaud, fresh grilled reef fish, and spiny lobster are some of the gourmet delights; and
- the wonderful people of Dominica.
To help those interested in ecotourism and natural history, we have created this web site. It is intended to compliment but not duplicate the already comprehensive web sites such as Steve's "Dominica On-Line".
Margaret and I returned to Dominica in 1995, 1998 and 2005 only to discover more of Dominica's treasurers and have plans to return again.
