TRAFALGER FALLS

A short hike uphill from Papillote and popular location for tourists from the cruise ships that dock at Roseau, are the two Trafalgar Falls of Trois Piton River.

Trafalgar Falls

Just below the "C" shaped cloud along the skyline is the location of the Trafalgar Falls. It is about a 15 minute hike which includes scrambling and sometimes hugging large wet but slippery boulders.

On the ascent, the first fall that to be observed is to the right (see photo below) or east and is the smaller of the two falls known as the Mother Falls. The larger fall, known as Father Falls has a deep plunge pool. The waters are cool and the pool sufficiently deep that local guides will dive from the ledges above.

Father Falls to the left or west - beginning the ascent to the plunge pools for a swim. Not the rusty water seeping over rocks originating from warm thermal seeps. The Mother Falls to the right.

After a swim in the pool, one could find a comfortable seat in the rocks to the left of the pool and enjoy the warmth of the thermal seeps - all the time looking southwest down the valley to the Caribbean beyond.

In the winter of 1995 one could leave the cool water of the pool and recline amongst rocks to the left where there were thermal seeps. This location commanded a magnificent view down the Roseau valley and the Caribbean beyond. In September 1995, there was a rock slide that radically altered this location as described by Arlington James.
