Pinocchio
This show marked my second attempt at a major set design and with the help of a very talented group of scenic artists my vision came to life. This set was designed for the Paul Bunyan playhouse during the same summer "Something's Afoot." The major set piece was the large wagon you can see in all the pictures. Originally it was supposed to leave the stage for large parts of the play but the limited backstage area and the large scrim kept that from happening. I took a lot more artistic risks on this show especially in the use of bright colors for both the floor and false proscenium. These choices were difficult to make but in the end proved successful. The show featured many smaller set pieces that needed to be stored in the wagon in order to give the feel of a travelling show. The most difficult part of this show, other than convincing people that a big green wagon was a good idea, was getting the front of that same wagon to flip down and become a stage for Pinocchio to perform on. Not only did it have to become a stage it had to support people walking and dancing on it while still being light enough to be raised and lowered by at most two people.
