This is one of those albums that was WAY ahead of its time. Hell, it's still ahead of its time! Yet another masterpiece produced by Jim Morris, TRANSCENDENCE was Crimson Glory's second album. Their first album was good, but this album took the band to the next level. Somewhat inspired by the Queensryche school of screaming progressive Power Metal, CG went a step further. It's like these guys tapped into a different reality or something.
The songs are based on literature ("Masque of the Red Death"), fantasy ("Where Dragons Rule") and politics ("Red Sharks"). The songs go from moody and gothic to heavy and fast. Vocalist Midnight, one of the highest and best Metal singers ever, injects every song with pure over-the-top energy. The music is tight and guitar-driven by Jon Drenning and Ben Jackson. The band's image was also cool they wore black leather and kubuki masks! Add to all that great artwork and packaging, and you've got a paragon in the annals of Heavy Metal! |
