HALFORD – RESURRECTION
2000 Metal-Is
I think this is one of the best Metal albums released in a long time. Every once in a while, I'll put it in the CD player, and it always seems to have that spark about it. It's just great True Metal featuring probably the best vocalist in the history of Metal. Despite Rob Halford's revelation back in the '90s that Metal was 'dead' to him, he has made a real comeback and produced a great Metal album. Hard to forgive him for that comment, but what can you do? Great songs and great musicianship can be found on this album. The guitarists, Patrick Lachman and Mike Chlasiak work great together, and Ray Riendeau performs well on bass. On drums you have Bobby Jarzombek (formerly of Riot) who is a real legend, one of my favorites. This is easily the best material Rob has done since Judas Priest's PAINKILLER.

You may have read about the duet with Bruce Dickinson on a track titled "The One You Love To Hate." All those who seem to think that these two voices are not put to good use on this track are WRONG! This is a killer song and Rob and Bruce make it work. When you compare this album with the latest effort by Judas Priest (DEMOLITION), you cannot help but notice where Priest is lacking...the songwriting, the energy, the passion. With no disrespect to Ripper Owens, (I am a huge fan) apparently what made Priest work so well was the songwriting combination of Halford, Tipton and Downing. While RESURRECTION doesn't have Tipton or Downing, it does feature some of the best songs of Rob's career. Some of my favorites are "Made In Hell," Locked and Loaded," Night Fall," "Saviour," "Cyberworld" and the title track. Highly recommended.
