KAMELOT – THE FOURTH LEGACY
2000 Noise Records
This album is an instant melodic Power Metal masterpiece. This is Florida-based Kamelot's fourth album, their second with former Conception singer Roy Khan. On their previous album, SIEGE PERILOUS, Khan only sang previously-written songs. His input into the material on THE FOURTH LEGACY made a major difference. The album opens with "New Allegiance," one of the best intros I've ever heard. Perfect in length, it segues the title track of the album with soaring orchestration. The band keeps things rocking with "Silent Goddess" and then "Desert Reign" is the intro for the awesome "Nights of Arabia." Then the rocker "A Shadow of Uther" follows. There is even a good ballad, called "A Sailorman's Hymn."

Thomas Youngblood's guitar work is extraordinary, Glenn Barry's bass playing is unique and Casey Grillo's drumming is enjoyable with some killer double-bass. The production is by Sascha Paeth and Miro, the team behind the Rhapsody sound. Even the album artwork, by Derek Gores, is excellent. I still go back and listen to this album alot, mainly because of the great singing by Khan and the upbeat, powerful songs. Kamelot likes to sing about historical figures and events, and their songs take you to another time, embodying an almost gothic, romantic time period. This is simply one of the best albums of 2000. It is a work of art.
