METALIUM – MILLENIUM METAL– CHAPTER ONE
1999 Pavement Music
This is Power Metal at its finest, despite what you may have read to the contrary. This album has everything a Power Metal classic needs: Speed, melody, power, a great vocalist, two great guitarists, monster bass, dominant drums, perfect production and cool songs. And that's not all, Chris Caffrey (Savatage, Doctor Butcher, etc.) is one of the guitarists (and co-producer) and Mike Terrana (Yngwie Malmsteen, Rage, Tony MacAlpine, Artension, etc.) plays drums. Man, these two guys throw down on this album, but the real star here is vocalist Henning Basse, who I read was only 22 or something when he made this album. Mind boggling. He stretches his voice into operatic and stratospheric heights on alot of the tracks, most notably "Dream of Doom," "Revelation" and "Void of Fire."

Every song is killer on this album, including the two cover tracks included at the end. Easily the best cover of "Smoke On The Water" I've heard since Riot did it a few years ago. Then the album ends with an excellent cover of Accept's "Burning." Add to all this an actual storyline in which we follow characters called Metalians on their conquest in the future, and you've got one hell of a Metal album. The story of the Metalians is continued in Metalium's second album STATE OF TRIUMPH, also worth seeking out. There are a few spoken parts on the album (written and performed by drummer Mike Terrana) that don't seem to make sense at first, but after a few listens, you will appreciate the extra effort and time that went into writing and performing them.
