| We finally got to see Iced Earth here in America! Amazing! I thought I would miss them again after Judas Priest postponed their shows in America. But Megadeth wisely picked them up as an opening act. Iced Earth came out to "Burning Times" from the Something Wicked album. They were confident on stage, impressing me and the crowd at the Roxy Theatre immediately. Matt Barlow was amazing with his voice and stage presence. IE played some great songs including "Travel In Stygian", "Vengeance Is Mine" (dedicated to Bin Laden!), and a couple of songs off of the new Horrow Show album. They ended on what I thought was a strange choice, "The Coming Curse." I kind of question the songs they chose to play. Iced Earth are trying to gain ground in the US and I think it would have been to their advantage to play the more mainstream (for them) material in their catalog, but hey...that's just my opinion. I was hoping for more stuff off of The Dark Saga and Something Wicked, personally, but I'm just glad they played at all.
Megadeth played and played! They did a song from every album, including "Mechanix" from Killing Is My Business. Here are most of the songs they played, not in order:
As you can see they played a lot, enough to please any Megadeth fan! They even threw in a few rare ones. Al Pitrelli was really cool and fit in well with the band. And Jimmy was awesome on the drums. Truly brutal! We hung out before the show (see the pics) and met all the members of both bands. That was a great experience, as every one of the guys was cool and down-to-earth. We got their autographs and got to talk to them face to face. For me as a fan, that's really what it's all about-- getting to meet the guys that inspire me so much. I would like to say THANKS to Megadeth and Iced Earth, in particular Jon Schaffer and Matt Barlow, who went beyond what I expected. Overall, I give this show a HUGE thumbs up! It was great! No assholes stage diving, mainly just a great old-school crowd pumping fists and banging heads. No complaints. What a great experience. |
