We started our ‘80s Metal Weekend’ off with Quiet Riot, who were in town at the House of Blues. Quiet Riot are one of the original good time rock ‘n’ roll party bands! A local band named Bounty Hunter opened the show (playing Lynyrd Skynyrd covers, no less!) and then Quiet Riot-- still with the Metal Health lineup, (Rudy Sarzo, Kevin DuBrow, Carlos Cavazo and Frankie Banali) hit the stage.

The band opened with the song “Vicious Circle,” from the 2001 album Guilty Pleasures. The band played songs from their entire catalog, including the title track from the 1993 album Terrified and “Feel The Pain” again from Guilty Pleasures. They mixed in classics like “Mama Weer All Crazy Now” and “Sign Of The Times“ with more obscure tracks like “Danger Zone,” which was a bonus track on the Metal Health remaster CD. They played most of the songs from Metal Health including “Cum On Feel The Noize,” “Metal Health,” “Slick Black Cadillac” and my favorite QR song “Love’s A Bitch.” Also, they dedicated “Thunderbird” to Randy Rhoads. I was happy when they pulled out songs like the heavy and fast “(We Were) Born To Rock” and “Party All Night” from the Condition Critical album. They even did a cover of The Who’s “My Generation” that was pretty cool. I was a little disappointed they didn’t play anything from QR III. I was hoping for at least “The Wild and The Young” but they didn’t play it. One thing that I think QR needs for their live show is THE PROP– you know the one I’m talking about. What would be cooler than Kevin DuBrow putting on that mask to play “Metal Health?” Kevin DuBrow can still sing and these guys can still rock. Rudy Sarzo is easily the best bass player I have ever seen, the man simply OWNS his instrument! Frankie Banali kicked major ass on drums, adding fills and extras all around. A brutal performance! Carlos Cavazo is a great guitarist and can shred with the best of them. We had a good time as Quiet Riot put on a very solid show and still has the chops and energy to entertain!
