- TESLA. One of my favorite bands. The band reunited in 2000 after breaking up 5 long years before. I had been waiting for them to get back together for all that time. I hadn't seen the band play since I saw them twice in1995 on the Bust A Nut tour. Before that, I only saw them open for Def Leppard "In The Round" on their first world tour in 1987. I've referred to Tesla as "The Last Great Rock N Roll Band," for years. There was no way I was going to miss the show no matter who they played with or where. So I ventured out to The House of Blues in Orlando (Downtown Disney) to see them play on Sunday night. I don't have any pictures to show you because the numbnuts at the House of Blues don't allow you to take cameras in...more on that later....

- First up was Skid Row, who I first saw in 1991 with Pantera on their first headlining show ever (Slave To The Grind). I last saw them open for KISS in 2000. The show was supposed to start at 7:00 PM, but Skid Row came out 10 MINUTES EARLY because they wanted to "play a longer set." No shit, folks...I was actually at a concert that STARTED EARLY! After I got over that fact, I must say that the Skids were pretty good. They opened with a fast rocking version of "I Remember You." Not bad, but it got better. Next, they played "Mudkicker" which mudkicked ass. The majority of the tunes they played were from the first album. However, I think the best song they did was "Monkey Business." Singer Johnny Solinger was OK, but he probably wishes he could hit the notes Sebastian Bach hits when he burps. Sorry, he is not quite the singer Sebastian is, and he was way off on some of the high notes in "I Remember You." But he is a good front man and entertaining nonetheless. Tommy Skeoch from Tesla came out and played with them on "Psycho Therapy." Drummer Phil Varone (formerly of Saigon Kick) had a great show. He's a solid drummer. I was disappointed that they didn't do any tunes from their best album, "Subhuman Race." I guess you can't get everything. They did play a new song called "Thick Is The Skin" which was awesome. Great song and big backing vocals...You can download it for free from www.skidrowonline.com (click HERE). I recommend you check this song out! Thumbs up to Skid Row for the show and for forging ahead without Sebastian Bach.

- Next, Vince Neil waddled out. He came out to *yawn* "Kick start My Heart." He played all Motley Crue songs (thankfully) Yeah, he looks worn out, but the crowd ate it up, blah blah blah. Don't ask me who was in his band. They all looked like an anorexic Joe Satriani with a bad wig on. The Unknown Drummer was OK, but I have no idea who the hell he was. The Unknown Bassist (playing about a 20 string bass??!!) looked like he was from the Goo Goo Dolls or something. The Unknown Guitarist looked strange but familiar. I think he was the same one as long ago, Brent something....definitely the highlight of the set was when Vince brought Playmate of the Year Brandi Roderick out on stage with him to sing "Girls Girls Girls." Of course, she's all over him. How this guy gets trim like that is beyond me....wow. No, she didn't take her shirt off. Yes, he only sings about half the lyrics. No he didn't play "Smoking In The Boys Room." He also didn't play "Shout At The Devil," "Looks That Kill" or "Live Wire." Hilarious!

- Finally Tesla came out to the dual lead guitars of "Cumin' Atcha Live." They kicked ass, but played a pretty standard set. No rarities except a cover of Sabbath's "War Pigs" which surprised me. I saw a heavier side to the band that I hadn't seen before. Tesla is a great live band. They had fun on stage and put on a good show. The new song they did was mediocre. I didn't catch the name of it, but it was written shortly after and about 9/11. It's so cool to see a band like this with all the original members. They are obviously still good friends and will hopefully keep on keepin' on....Long Live Rock 'N Roll....

- I really enjoyed the show, and I recommend that you catch the tour (or what's left of it.) I wasn't blown away by the venue, House of Blues. This was the first time I had been to a HOB, and let me tell you, they are way beyond anal about stuff. First they check your ID. Then they frisk you and pat you down, also using a metal-detecting wand. I didn't even get this kind of attention at the airport when I flew a few months ago! They wouldn't let me take my camera in. As if that wasn't enough, they also wouldn't let me take my Sharpie pen in with me. A magic marker. Why? Because they thought I would write on the walls with it. Wow. They also had security standing over to the left and right side of the audience in some sort of nazi fashion, so even if I had sneaked the camera in, they would have promptly taken it from me. They really need to loosen up a little. I don't think a camera will hurt anybody, and they really don't steal your soul...I promise. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back there again since they're the only gig in town...Till next time....be sure to get drunk and sell your soul to the devil...
