I don't remember reading very many good reviews on this CD, which is why I avoided it at first. Standard Bay-area thrash with nothing special and poor vocals were often the gist of every review. I happened to find it at a used CD store so I decided to check it out just to satisfy my need for more thrash. Again, the critics nearly made me miss out on an incredible release. Keep in mind, "standard Bay-area thrash" is pretty damn good. The vocals, while not in the mold of Heathen or Forbidden are what set this CD apart from the rest for me...Sean Killian has his own style. His vocals seem to convey the aggressiveness and urgency of the music without being forceful...if that makes sense.
Plenty of thrashiness, heavy grooves, and gang vocals galore to up the adrenaline. Sometimes it's best to ignore the critics and take a chance, this CD was definitely worth the risk. You might as well pick up the other three full lengths while you're at it. "Eternal Nightmare" is straight forward speed while "Nothing To Gain" leans slightly away from the thrash and more toward the grooves. |
