kX Project-Install 2 Sound Cards
A short introduction
     Page A

Purpose of this Webpage:
Explain the procedure of installing 2 kX driver
compatible sound sound cards, linking them together
with SPDIF cable(s) to obtain extra analog inputs.

1. Why use the kX driver?
People choose to install the kX drivers in place of the
Creative Labs drivers for various reasons. I had a Creative Labs CT4670
Sound Blaster Live Value card capable of recording one stereo, (2 mono),
simultaneous inputs. I wanted more simultaneous inputs since my recording,
needs had changed, but since I do recording mostly for enjoyment, I didn't feel
like spending the extra money for an expensive, professional multiple input sound card.
Then I heard about the kX project. After spending a little time at the kX forum, I learned
that multiple SBLives or Audigy cards could be hooked together with S/PDIF cables
and linked to a HOST card. Since all the inputs come into one card, the sync problems
normally encountered when attempting to use 2 different soundcards are resolved.

2. What is the kX project?
    Some features are listed below:
      Wave Recording & Playback
MIDI Synthesizer (Soundfont-based) and MIDI UART In/Out
      DirectSound 2D and DirectSound 3D
      Full ASIO and GSIF support
      DSP Microcode Loading/Unloading
      Full AC97 codec control
      AC3 Software Decoding

3. Which soundcards are supported?
    The short answer is:
Creative Labs cards that use the
      EMU10K1 and EMU10K2 chips.

B - kX Project-Uninstall the Creative Labs drivers-Windows 98SE / Win ME
The Creative Labs drivers must be completely uninstalled before
the kX drivers are installed. This procedure describes how to do it
for Windows 98SE and Win ME users.

     C - kX Project-Install the kX drivers
I assume you already have an SBLive or Audigy physically installed

Hardware installation of a second sound card
The 2 cards are digitally linked with an S/PDIF cable.

     E - kX Project-Create a custom DSP
I don't use the kX mixers anymore. I find it simpler to create custom DSPs.
There are other tutorials for using the mixer-see the links on the last page.
