FEBRUARY 2008 “Greetings from Chapter 64”- THE FEBRUARY LEADING EDGE (Message from the President) After The Holidays Holiday Party…A Big Success: Our annual After the Holidays Holiday Party was, indeed, a big success this year. We had a great turn out of members from the Illinois Pilots Association and Chapter 64. A BIG THANKS goes to Wally Huber who helped set up the event and serve all the membership as well…couldn’t have done it without Wally’s support. I have to thank Mike Lotz and Ron Peaking for helping contact all the members along with Wally. I’ve included a few pictures so you can see our members in action at the party. Mark your calendars now for next year’s event. Chapter 64 Person and Wingman of the Year Awards: We are honored to announce Brian Kissinger as the Chapter 64 Person of the Year Award for 2006 and 2007. Brian’s flight in his Piper L-4 in support of the National Brain Tumor Foundation exemplifies the Chapter’s “can do” and supportive spirit. Brian’s tenacity resulted in his completing the L-4 in time for a summer 2007 flight around the Eastern US, the Sparta Fly In and other events to garner money for brain tumor research. One cannot accomplish this feat alone, and Brian’s family was a big factor in his success. However, when working on airplanes, Brian’s family conceded support to the Chapter’s Wingman of the Year winner, Todd Drenkhann. Todd’s perseverance helped Brain accomplish what seemed impossible--take parts and assemble a flying airplane in less than 7 months. Todd steadfastly devoted his time and expertise to ensuring Brian’s dream of helping those less fortunate was a success…for that we owe him a great deal of gratitude. Brian and Todd are outstanding representatives of Chapter 64, EAA and the Aviation Community and very deserving of their awards. Please congratulate them when you see them next. John Larabee, Special Speaker For Feb 08 Meeting: Mr. John Larabee, "KMOX Airborne Two." John's been a pilot since 1982 and flies the St. Louis skies twice daily reporting traffic conditions for KMOX radio 1120. He will discuss what it’s like flying and reporting traffic simultaneously…I can barely talk and fly yet alone report on something. He will discuss how flying in the region has changed and what we can expect from local aviation in the future. This should be a very interesting presentation, so don’t miss it. Until our meeting on 5 Feb… …keep ‘em flying. dd |
