The March minutes are as follows:
March 7, Downtown Airport Hangar P-24
The March meeting began with a tour of the interesting planes and artifacts
in the Keith Baker Hangar and ended with an informative presentation from
Dr. Leo Sullivan, FAA AME. We would like to extend a thank you to Mr. Keith
Baker and Dr. Leo Sullivan for their generous support for our March EAA Chapter
64 meeting.
The March meeting was the first for Ron Peek as the new secretary of EAA Chapter
64. Thanks to Mike and Cindy Lotz for all their years of past service. Also
congratulations to Walt Turk as our new Vice-President.
We gave Doc his plaque in recognition of his 136 Young Eagles flown, more
than anyone in the chapter.
Larry had found a copy of a 1956 local area chart. The chapter has had that
framed and inscribed and has donated it to the museum in honor of Dick Kamm.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from the February meeting
were read to the members present. A motion was made and seconded to accept
the minutes as read.
Treasurer’s Report: Larry reported an income of $10,584.99 from the
sale of the New Athens building. He also expects approximately $300 back from
insurance. Those monies added to the monies going forward from 2005 leaves
the club with a balance of $28,720.86. The treasurer’s report was unanimously
approved.
Correspondence: Mike Brenner received information on the Milwakee Area Air
Expo to be held July 15 & 16. Go to http://www.milwaukeeairexpo.com for
more information.
We also got a notification from the St. Louis Air and Space Museum that our
membership dues were due. The Chapter became a member last year. A motion
was made, seconded and passed to renew our $150 membership.
Old Business: We passed a list around of the members that are current on their
dues. If you haven’t paid your club dues yet for 2006 now is the time
as we move into the second quarter of the year.
The second annual CPS Fly-In is coming up May 6 and will run from 8AM to 3PM.
Beside a fly-in this will include a car show, petting zoo, pony rides, a dunk
tank(volunteers sought) and a plane wash. Mike Lotz has volunteered to take
care of the soda sales again this year. Mid Coast is donating the ice.
The BD5 is still in Mike’s shop taking up valuable work space and needs
to go. Bob McDaniel has suggested that the museum may have space and it would
be a perfect place to store and work on the plane. He volunteered to make
contact and check on our option to store it there. Larry reported that in
the past a $100 fund was approved for purchasing parts, rivets, etc. needed
to finish assembly of the BD5. So far approximately $85 has been spent and
it is expected that more will be needed. A motion was made, seconded and approved
to allocate another $100 to meet those needs.
The club made $400 on the EAA leather jacket raffle held at the Christmas
party.
New Business: We had 3 new members, Chris Carson, Linda Hasse
and Rick Regh., join the club. Welcome to the new members and forgive me if
I’ve misspelled your name.
It was announced that a “Superflite Fabric Covering Demonstration”
will be held at Greenville airport on March 18. Brochures were available for
those that were interested.
The club has 7 guys that have flown at least 10 missions for the Young Eagles.
This was reported in the EAA Sport Aviation magazine.

Program Director-
Young Eagles- The membership was reminded that the second annual CPS Fly-In
was coming up May 6. Larry Frey said that he would be needing at least 6 or
7 pilots to fly YE at the Fly-In. He already has 120 kids lined up. We still
need pilots and ground crew and may need to use guest pilots from another
chapter. A motion was made, seconded and passed to pay for the fuel for those
guest pilots. Anyone interested in helping out should contact Larry.
Projects-
50/50 Drawing-none
The meeting was adjourned and our guest speaker, Dr. Leo Sullivan, A&P, FAA AME, and pilot took the floor to talk about a variety of aeromedical issues and share his experiences with the 2000 hp FokWulfe he is restoring. Dr. Sullivan addressed questions on pace makers, cancer, Lasik surgery, Glaucoma, cataracts, detached retina, heart by-pass, polio and other medical situations that may impact obtaining a medical needed for a private pilot’s license. He said the Bob Hoover incident has made a huge impact on the FAA’s attitude towards these situations. Recently the Feds have been more helpful and cooperative in assisting individuals in passing their medical. As usually occurs when a group of aviators gather the conversation eventually turned to aircraft. The good doctor shared information on the history, specifications and performance of the FokWulfe. Overall the presentation was informative and enjoyable. Thank you Dr. Sullivan
