“Greetings from Chapter 64”-
ANOTHER MONTH HAS GONE BY AND WE ARE ALREADY GETTING INTO MAY. SOME GOOD
FLYING WEATHER IS NEAR SO GET OUT AND ENJOY IT! THE MAY 2 MEETING WILL BE
IN OUR MEETING ROOM IN HANGAR ONE. AT LAST MONTH’S MEETING WE DISCUSSED
A WORK MEETING FOR THE BD-5 BUT WE OVERLOOKED THAT WE ALREADY HAD TODD DRENKHAHN’S
SPORT PILOT PRESENTATION SCHEDULED FOR MAY.
THE MAY MEETING WILL BE A SPORT PILOT PRESENTATION RATHER THAN A BD-5 WORK
DAY.
REMEMBER THE CPS FLY-IN IS MAY 6 AND ANY HELP TO WORK THE GATHERING WOULD
BE APPRECIATED.
April 4, Walt Hubert’s House - Thanks, Walt for hosting the meeting
and providing the food. It was very good.
The April minutes are as follows:
Called meeting to order at 7:04PM.
Secretary’s Report:
The minutes of the last meeting, as presented in the March newsletter, were
approved.
Treasurer’s Report: We had a disbursement of $150 to the St. Louis
Air Museum for membership and $159 deposit from dues, $310 from insurance
refund on New Athens building, and $1251 from hangar rent. This leaves a
balance of $29,092.00. A motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s
report as read and passed unanimously.
Correspondence: The EAA sent out info on weekend work parties. Mike had
copies of the info for others to view if interested.
Old Business: The BD5 has been moved OUT OF Mike’s workshop and out
to Mike’s hangar. Bob McDaniel is at Sun n Fun but when he returns
we will need to get an update on arrangements made with the air museum.
We decided to wait until the BD-5 is at the museum to schedule a work session.
Mike Brenner will contact Bob to get an update.
May 6 is the fly-in. Mike Lotz will get the soda, Maggie and Mike Brenner
will sell the soda in front of hangar 2. We passed around a work sheet for
volunteers to sign up. We will be setting up on May 5 – this amounts
to putting up signs and barriers. We’ll start around 10 AM at the
EAA hangar 1.
We passed around a sheet for dues. We need to gather EAA membership numbers for our records and to report back to EAA. Larry was collecting from those that were present and still needed to pay.
We still have the $500 scholarship fund available through August and only have 1 applicant. To be eligible you must be a National EAA Member, a Chapter 64 Member and soloed an airplane. The Money goes directly to the Flight School, FBO, or Instructor. The Board of Directors reserves the right to refuse application for any reason
Ron Peek will print out the application, provide it to Bob McDaniel and
Bob can put it on the website in PDF format.
New Business: We had two new members join – Buck Martin and Bob Dangredo.
Welcome to the chapter!!
Walt Turk has contributed clecos to the club– he has 528 in 3/16”, 1/8”, 5/32”. Walt Hubert made a motion to give 20 cents apiece for those and that future builders can donate theirs at half price of new. The motion was seconded and passed. Walt Turk immediately donated the proceeds from his cleco’s back to the club. What a supporter – thanks Walt!
Walt Hubert made a gadget for pulling wing skins together. If you have a need for this contact Walt.
It was reported that the Ladies auxiliary for the B’ville VFW sends goodies to soldiers in Iraq. They need names of people that need the stuff. They only have 4 people to send to at this time. They are getting a lot of stuff donated and need recipients.
We had EAA Chapter hats a few years ago. Several showed some interest for
some more hats and some asked about jackets and shirts. We have some shirts
left. It was decided if you want a jacket, buy the jacket and bring it to
Larry and he will have it embroidered for about $10 each. Larry will investigate
if they can do hats and leather jackets and will let us know next month.
Meeting Schedule
May 2 -Hangar One – Sport Pilot presentation
June 6 - Hangar One – Work on BD5??
July 11- Hangar One - Bob Switzer presentation??
Committee Reports
Librarian-
Technical Advisor- nothing to report.
Program Director- No news – when finished with meeting Walt will share
the Zodiac manuals and video. They have 900 pictures of step by step instructions.
The horizontal was on display. Walt says it is well designed and a good
system.
Young Eagles- Larry just got the certificates for young eagle credits. These
credits can be used for scholarship dollars to use for training. If we don’t
use them we can give them back to OshKosh for use there.
Projects- Bob Dangredo(a new member) is looking for someone to mentor him
on fiberglass work and also info on a Long-EZE. Walt had a connection for
him.
Walt Hubert has an Aeronica they are putting together. Wings are about 98% right now. Project moving along real well. Should be in the air in a few months.
Walt Turk hopes to fly his Sonex by October. Small finish items left to
do. Started 2.5 years ago, thinks he has over 1000 hrs in it after making
mods that other builders have advise of. Walt shared experience of Sonex
tour vs. Zodiac tour.
