JUNE, 2006
OFFICERS: PRESIDENT-MIKE BRENNER VICE PRESIDENT-WALT TURK
SECRETARY-RON PEEK TREASURER-LARRY FREY
WEBMASTER-BOB MCDANIEL AND OF COURSE WALT HUBERT

“Greetings from Chapter 64”-
It was decided in the May meeting that we would hold the upcoming June meeting on May 30. This is being done in anticipation of taking a tour of the Goodyear blimp while it is on premises. Bob McDaniel received a confirmation of their schedule. They're scheduled to moor and shut down their flight operations at 6 pm on Tuesday and they will be happy to have our members come out and view the blimp and talk to the available crew members. They're still not sure whether they'll have a pilot available or ground crew member to show us around, but they will definitely have someone to show and tell.
Therefore, the next meeting is scheduled for May 30th. We will start the meeting a half-hour earlier at 6:30 and start serving food at 5:30PM at Hangar One. We’ll make a BBQ party out of it. Larry’s doing the cookin’ - BBQ Pork and the fixins!

The May minutes are as follows:
May 2, Downtown Airport Hangar One
The meeting was called to order at 7:02pm.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes from the April meeting were accepted as written in the newsletter. Motion made and seconded to wave reading.
Treasurer’s Report: Since last mtg – income of $65 from food and of $84 for rebate from Philips petroleum from flying young eagles. No expenses. Balance is $29,176.88. Allocations - BD5 $120.07 and Young Eagles fuel $456.56. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented.
We have a CD that came due. Larry checked on new rates and a 8-month CD for 5.1% was available. CD rates for periods longer than 8 months don’t pay a benefit. A motion was made to reinvest the monies at 5.1%. The motion was seconded and approved.
Correspondence: No correspondence. Walt received email from Dennis Deangelo – he knows Don. He is a C-5 pilot and glider pilot. He is moving to Scott in July and is looking for a place to park a Champ. A member has a hangar at Sparta as a possibility and Walt will let him know.
Old Business: Last meeting several asked how much for hats with our EAA64 logo. Larry checked it out with his contact and reports that hats would be $8-10. $10 are for fancy hats, cheaper hats would be about $8. She said she could also embroider on leather jackets but sometimes leather puckers and she doesn’t want to be responsible since leather jackets are so expensive.

Bob McDaniel sent out an email for opportunity to tour Goodyear blimp at the end of May. The blimp is in town for the holiday weekend and will be leaving town just before June meeting. It was suggested that we move the June meeting to May 30. Everyone seemed to be in favor so the June meeting will be on May 30 to tour the Goodyear blimp.

Bob McDaniel reports that the museum has space for the BD5.

New Business: No new business. A leather jacket will be raffled off at 2PM on Saturday at the fly-in. Tuskegee airmen will be there autographing stuff for those that are interested.

Meeting Schedule
Next meeting is May 30th at Hangar One. Starting a little earlier than usual – we’ll eat at 5:30 and start the meeeting @ 6:30.

Fly-In Notes from Larry –
The St Louis Downtown Airport Spring Fly-In was a tremendous success and the Young Eagle Flights coordinated by EAA Chapter 64 played a large part in the event. (See www.stlouisdowntownairport.com for photos).
Since Chapter 64 did not have enough pilots for the anticipated number of YE’s, word was put out to other Chapters that we would welcome a few pilots to help. The response was overwhelming! The Gateway Eagle’s of Missouri provided five pilot’s and planes, and Chapters from Bethalto, St Charles and even Mt Vernon pitched in as well.
In the end, we flew 103 new Young Eagles and could easily have handled more.
Jim Pauling and Gary Enochs brought a plane from the Scott Flying Club, decked out in Airforce Colors to use as a static display.
Thanks to pilots Don Karr, Jerry Wade, Wayland Downen , Doc Henry Hurd and Jim Pauling from Chapter 64 (Jim flew his first YE at this event). Thanks to pilots Hubert Looney, Jesse Jackson, James Jeeter, Harold Moss and Mike Young from the Gateway Eagles, Mike Holton and Jack Butler from Bethalto, Don Jonas from St Charles and Denis Ells from Mount Vernon.
Mike and Maggie Brenner, Bill Florich, Mike Lotz and Walt Turk handled Soda sales and ran out of soda by about 2:30 (we’ll get more next time!). The result of this was making almost enough profit to cover the fuel costs. Great Job.
The Flight line crew did a super job insuring line safety and aircraft movement, with this many aircraft involved it was no easy task. Line crewmen were Gary Enochs, Terry Ernst, Jim Pauling, Robt Gauch, Larry Loiseau, Walt Turk, and Rick Rehg.
Of course, registration was a large task and expertly handled by Kathy Frey, Marcia Ernst, Sandy Wade, Annamary King and Ms. Bonita from the Gateway Eagles.
I hope I haven’t missed anyone, if I did my humble apologies. Looking forward to next year already!
Larry
