JULY 2008
OFFICERS: PRESIDENT- WALT TURK
VICE PRESIDENT- BRIAN KISSINGER
SECRETARY-RON PEEK
TREASURER-LARRY FREY
WEBMASTER-BOB MCDANIEL
PROGRAM DIRECTOR – RICK REHG

“Greetings from Chapter 64”-

The July minutes are as follows:
July 1, Sackman Field, Columbia, IL
The meeting was a very brief one as everyone was interested in seeing the local planes and watching pilots do fly-bys. The meeting was called to order by Chapter 64 president Walt Turk at 7 pm.

Secretary’s Report: A motion was made and seconded to forego reading of the secretary’s report due to mailing of the newsletter – motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: No treasurers’ report this month.
Correspondence: None
Old Business: Those interested in the Wright Patterson Air Force museum trip this fall should contact Bill Buckholtz.
New Business: The president of Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum, Mac Chamblin, was on hand and proposed that the chapter may want to get involved in a project they have to restore OTW 1941 Meyers O.T.W. Bi-plane. It flew to the museum on temporary permit and they are looking for interested parties to help out on the restore project. We have the skills amongst our membership to support such an effort. A show of hands indicated an interest to participate.

Mac said they are just beginning the project and thinks that by September they will be ready to begin. The OTW needs it’s annual, may need some fabric work but there is not a great deal of major work to do. The OTW is the plane that went up against the the Stearman for a government contract and did not win. It is more spry than the Stearmen, has a 165 HP engine and a metal fuselage. This OTW 1941 Meyers O.T.W. Bi-plane was once owned by Nikki Caplan, world famous St. Louis balloonist and the museum would like to see it flying again. To see a picture of the OTW and learn more about the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum picture visit their website at http://www.airandspacemuseum.org/default.htm.
