VICE PRESIDENT-WALT TURK
SECRETARY-RON PEEK
TREASURER-LARRY FREY
WEBMASTER-BOB MCDANIEL
PROGRAM DIRECTOR – RICK RAY

Greetings from Chapter 64”-
The September business meeting was brief as members spent a good part of the early evening moving into the newly refurbished meeting room in Hangar 2. All pitched in to move tables, chairs, fridge, microwave, books, magazines, etc.

The September minutes are as follows:

September 4, Hangar Two
Meeting was called to order at 8:07 PM by Vice President Walt Turk.

Secretary’s Report: A motion was made to forego reading of the secretary’s report due to mailing of the newsletter – motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: Larry Frey reported that a CD came due yesterday. A motion was made and seconded to roll over the CD at the best rate Larry can get. The motion passed unanimously.

Correspondence: None reported.

Old Business: Spent $145 of the $200 allocated for the room refurbishing slush fund. We had voted to purchase new fridge but Mike Lotz brought a truck with a power tailgate and a fridge cart and with assistance from other members moved the old one to the new room. Larry mentioned we might want to buy a shed to store some items in to maximize the area available in our meeting room. Everyone pitched in to move and set up tables and chairs.

New Business: Brian Kissinger talked about the upcoming Sparta fly-in scheduled for October 6. The National Brain Tumor foundation is covering fees to provide liability insurance as required. They are looking for volunteers to be judges, etc. . EAA64 will be flying Young Eagles that day in Sparta.

Larry took a survey to see if the club wanted to do a fall Young Eagle flight besides the one planned for the Sparta fly-in. Several voices expressed a willingness to do so.

Meeting Schedule
October meeting is at Hangar Two on October 2. Larry Frey will cook, eat at 6PM and the meeting is at 7PM.

Also on Oct 6th, which is near the 50th anniversary of the Sputnick launch(Oct 4), they will be launching a test rocket. This is always done with safety in mind. They tested 4 rockets this last week alone. The group is looking for volunteers and funding. For more information check out their website at www.GASpaceGroup.org.

Meeting was adjourned @ 8:22.

THE OCTOBER LEADING EDGE (Message from the President)

Summer has come to a close; however, there are still a lot of aerial activities left before winter slows us down. Look at what’s up for the month of October.

1st Annual Sparta Fly-in: Keep 6 Oct 07 open for the Sparta Fly-In hosted by the National Brain Tumor Foundation and sponsored by Chapter 64. The event kicks off early with the Gathering of Eagles at 10 am…this is where we check out airplanes and give rides to the members who do not have airplanes. Food will be available beginning at 11 am and will last until we run out. At 1 pm we will begin the flying contests which are: shortest takeoff, spot landing and flour bombing. We will award certificates to the winner of each event and the best overall…so please participate regardless of the airplane type you have. After the contest awards are presented there will be flying and sharing in aviation, so don’t leave early…take time to enjoy the friendship of fellow aviators. We still need members to help support the event and participate as well, so come ready to fly and lend a hand…you really can do both. See you on the 6th at Sparta IL.

National Museum of the Air Force Trip (17 Nov): The NMAF trip is fast coming upon us and we need a good head count for the trip. Be prepared to discuss the trip at the meeting and to committing to the event. If we don’t have enough participants to justify the bus, we will carpool to the museum, so the event will go regardless.

Gateway Eagles Young Eagle Fly-In: Chapter 64 supported the Gateway Eagles Young Eagle Fly-in on 15 September, 2007. Bob McDaniel, Larry Frey, Mike Lotz and Dennis D’Angelo helped fly Young Eagles and parked airplanes at the event. Over 140 Young Eagles earned their wings at this great event. Thanks to Mid Coast Aviation for allowing the Gateway Eagles to use their parking area to stage the event. Thanks to all for the support.

Officer Positions Coming Open: During the meeting we will address the need for new officers this coming year. The positions opening are: Treasurer, Secretary, Young Eagle coordinator and Librarian. We need your support in keeping the chapter vibrant and new, so please give consideration to volunteering for one of these positions. We will vote at the December meeting.

Painting Party Take II: We still need to finish painting the chapter meeting room. The main door, windows and window sills need to have a finish coat of paint applied. The party will take place in Oct; however, I will ask the membership for the best date to complete the job. Once again we will provide food and drive for the labor. Please help make our meeting area one of the best in chapter history.

That’s it for this month. Remember, the Sparta Fly-In helps support the National Brain Tumor Foundation by getting the word out about this organization, so please come and support the cause. Until then…

…keep ‘em flying.
