“Greetings from Chapter 64”-VERY IMPORTANT!!--PLEASE RSVP TO MIKE LOTZ-618-257-8967 OR WALT HUBERT-618-233-4297 BY THURSDAY, JANUARY 13th,  FOR THE HOLIDAY PARTY WHICH WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 15th BEGINNING AT 6:00.  WALT NEEDS TO LET THE PEOPLE AT FISHERS KNOW HOW MANY WILL BE ATTENDING.

Happy New Year to all!  We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are well on your way to accomplishing your New Year's Resolutions.  My number one resolution is to burn more 100 LL.  This year let's try to fly somewhere as a club on at least one occasion.

Myself and Cindy, on a rainy Miami afternoon,  went to see The Aviator.  I thought it was a good movie and I think I saw Walt's airplane at least twice.

Congratulations to St Louis Downtown Airport on their acquiring the St. Louis Aviation Museum.  I'm sure Bob will have a report for us at the February meeting.

The December minutes are as follows:

December 6, 2004   Downtown Airport    Called to order: 7:00  21 members and guests present.  Of biggest consequence was the appointing of officers.  The only change was in the Presidential position.  The club welcomes Mike Brenner as our new leader. (Sorry Mike)  Thanks Kathy and Larry for the wonderful food.

Secretary’s Report:  Waived due to newsletter mailing

Treasurer’s Report:  As of  12/6/04 the balance is $14, 627.98 of which $1000 is earmarked for Young Eagles fuel thanks to the PARX Foundation.  We have had an annual income of $6044.69 and expenses of 3588.00.  Of course there are 2 weeks left in the year and I'm sure Larry will have an updated ledger at the February meeting.  (There was no January meeting)

Correspondence: Larry is looking for the Charter of February, 1965.  This was the first correspondence date that we can find.  Willie stated he has the original charter and will get this to us.  Larry thought we should try and contact the original members.

Old Business: Mike said that Andre has not been able to get to New Athens, it seems like when he can go, the weather is bad.  Curt said they have an open house on the 16th and he would go and replace the bad ceiling tiles.  The roof is currently not leaking.

New Business: Dues are being accepted for 2005.  Please bring to the Holiday Party, the February meeting, or mail to Larry Frey at 13337 Koch Road, Highland, IL, 62249.  We signed up 4 new members at the December meeting.

Larry congratulated Bob McDaniel on the cover story in Airport Business Magazine at which time Bob brought up the FAA is stopping the notice mailings for their safety programs.  You can go to faasafety.gov for a list of upcoming events.  You can also sign up for email alerts.

Willie asked about the tug engine and we decided to haul it to his house so he can rebuild said motor.

Meeting Schedule

February meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 1st at Downtown Airport.  Walt is providing the chow with Don Pries signed up for March.  Please help out by signing up for food duty.  We need April, May, and June.

Committee Reports

Librarian- Warren said he would like to purchase a book on painting airplanes.  The club agreed and told him to purchase this book.

Technical Advisor-Willie went and looked at Walter Turk's Sonex and said he is doing a wonderful job.  Wally also told of a funk that he weighed.  It was overly nose-heavy and they came to find out that the landing gear were different from each other and attached at the wrong place.

            Flight Advisor-None

Program Director-Walt brought up the Holiday Party and spoke of his problems with the overhaul of his ranger engine.  The rebuilder out of Vandalia provided him with an engine that had oil pressure problems and oil leaks which he is now attempting to fix.  He said beware of one man engine shops.  Willie said he had a run-in with the same guy.

Young Eagles-Our goal for 2005 is 100 kids flown.  We flew 65 in 2004 but would have easily surpassed 100 if not for several weather postponements.

Projects-Warren said he sold his ercoupe.  It is going to Oklahoma.  Walter Turk showed pictures of his Sonex project.  The kit is 2 years old.  The wings are mated to the fuselage.  He has had a lot of fun and thinks he is a year away from first flight.  Don Pries is on his second wing.  Larry Frey has passed Don.  His wings are done.  He is waiting on his push rods and bellcranks so he can seal up the bottom of the wings.  Fuselage is built except for top skin.  Doc Hurd has a  40,000 BTU Salamander and a 4 foot by 6 foot fiberglass cloth cutting table for sale.  You can call him at 398-3393.

Tools- All in stock except for the laser level which is loaned out.

50/50 Drawing-Mrs Knebel has started another winning streak.  (It's been several meetings since she won)  She received $15 with 15 going to the club.  Don't forget if the pot is over $25 you can take a shirt in place of your winnings.  We also still have shirts for sale and will bring a few to the Holiday Party in case you still don't have one.

            Meeting adjourned: at 8:00
