DECEMBER 2007 “Greetings from Chapter 64”- Diane Earhart joined the EAA64 club. She and Gary had been visitors lately and talking about the rocket they are preparing to launch. EAA is now involved but the launch date is delayed from Dec. 17 and a new date will be announced when known. Thanks go out to Bob McDaniels on all the new updates and changes on the website. We are getting a lot of hits on the new web pages. If you would like to have pictures of your bird flying Dennis and Bill volunteered to take flying pictures. Last month we discussed the trip to Wright Patterson. It’s about 600 mile round trip but not enough people have signed up to make it worth taking a bus. This may need to go by car pool. 4-5 hours is max you could do in the museum. This can be done in a day. Need to discuss after the meeting amongst those interested. (Note: This trip end up being canceled) Food – We need some additional folks to sign up for food. New Business: There were three lists being passed around for people to sign and idicate what type of plane they have, etc. The info will be put on the website. We need to set a date for the January party. Dennis will contact Walt and the Illinois Pilot’s Association and see if they already have a date. Probably second weekend in January. We need to elect member of the year and will provide award during party. The Fly-in went well at Sparta. All had a lot of fun and we now have a toe hold in how to do it. Greg Gremminger won the spot landing with his Gyro. Every winner donated money back to the organization to support cancer research. Thanks everyone!! Brian Kissinger talked about services offered by EAA. He reported they will provide copies of articles that they have on different planes you may be interested in purchasing or building/restoring. Brian is currently researching a FlyBaby as he is starting a new project. Brian donated Zenith newsletters from his old Zenith project to the club library. He has several years’ worth. Doc has a Quickie 2 for sale; this will be put on website. Doc also has a corrosion X kit for sale. Tools – We have the new scales and they work great as reported by several members. The missing instrument panel drill guide template has been found and returned to the tool bin. Nominations are open for Treasurer, Secretary, and Librarian. We are looking for volunteers - Get your hands up……………. A member reported that a P51, a Skyraider, T6s, Steersman, etc. will fly down Market street during the Veteran’s day parade in St. Louis. The fly over is right at noon and they will loiter down by JB bridge if you want to get a good look at them. Meeting Schedule Larry – Has engine hung and plumbed. Glass cockpit has been updated. Seems like there is always more to do. He will be leaving for 3 months so it will probably be spring before he has it completed. Ron Peek has his CGS Hawk Arrow inspected and passed as an ELSA. (N618RP) 50/50 Drawing- Al Baine, our guest, won $19 in the 50/50 drawing. Al Baine is new member, private pilot, out of flying game and wants to get him back in the air. He’s still a bachelor and it’s rumored he still has some money – he’s gonna need it!! Welcome aboard. Guests – Greg Gremminger and Bob Heinburger are in attendance to talk about gyrocopters. Motion made and seconded to close the meeting at 7:39. THE NOVEMBER LEADING EDGE (Message from the President) A Quick Year In Review: I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Can you believe it is already December and Christmas is only a few weeks away? Of course we can still dream of the great 2007 flying season and all that we accomplished. The chapter and its members were very busy this past year supporting the aviation community. We saw many milestones in 2007; Brian Kissinger finished the rebuild of his L-4 Cub and then flew it to raise money for cancer research, we saw members Mike and Maggie Brenner complete their Zenith, Wally Hubert his Champ and Jim Stoops the RV-speedster project he acquired. Bob McDaniel set up a bunch of great events for the chapter...we will not forget the visit to Mid Coast Aviation and the Out Back blimp tour…and there is more to come from Bob in 2008…thanks buddy. Who can forget the 1st Annual Sparta Airport Fly In…another Brian Kissinger brain trust (pun intended) to raise money for brain tumor research. Our members helped to setup this event and provided leadership for this great cause. I am still cleaning flour from my clothes after Brian successfully missed the target and bombed the support crew. I wonder if he really didn’t know the wind drift was pushing him toward us!?! In all 2007 was a banner year. So what can we expect of 2008? I see next year as the Year of Opportunity, a chance for the chapter to shine and show its support to the local community. The 2nd Annual Sparta Fly In is targeted for May 08, so it’s only a short 6 months away. Brian plans his second flight for cancer in June 2008 and don’t forget we’ll support the Gateway Eagle Young Eagle Fly In too…not to mention our own Young Eagle events. So, there isn’t much time to waste as we ready for another great flying season. Thanks for your support and thank you all for making Chapter 64 the Best in the Mid-West. God Bless you all. Holiday Party: Before you think we have forgotten the annual Holiday Party with the Illinois Pilot’s Association, let me tell you we have not. It is scheduled for 19 Jan 08 from 5-10 PM at Fisher’s Restaurant. The cost is $17.00 per person plus drinks for the Special Buffet and, of course, Wally will be serving the meat…no one does it better. A BIG thanks to Wally for setting up the event! Make your plans now to attend…we’d like a big family outing. At the event we will announce the Chapter 64 Member of Year Award. See you there. Happy Holidays and… …keep ‘em flying. dd |
