Controller and Computer
The controller electronics were housed in a plastic utility box. A smaller box housing a voltage doubler was mounted on top of the main box. Heavy guage cabling was used between the battery or DC power source and the controller to minimize voltage drops, which degrade the stepper maximum slew speed.
The computer was a 386 laptop with a 387 coprocesser. While a faster cpu with color display might allow for smoother microstepping, the 386 has sufficient power to run the scope.
