FAQ

How can I help?
You can help by providing a tax deductible donation in the amount of your choice. All monetary donations at this time will go towards purchasing new stalls. As we progress with other phases of construction, services rendered in kind are also appreciated and treated the same as cash for recognition and tax purposes. Please contact us for further discussion. You can also help by purchasing items online at Country Supply and designating our project as recipient of the Country Care Program. See our needs page for details. We are also enrolled to benefit from Goodsearch.com. Please add the Goodsearch toolbar and enter Isabella County 4-H Horse Leaders for the charity.
What has been completed to date?
The 210’ x 160’ structure (minus electrical on some stalls), 150 stalls, the restrooms and showers, and the washing area (10 stations). In the summer of 2007 we completed the office and storage room as well as a new announcer's booth. Additional water hook-ups are installed around all four exterior sides of the barn as well as 22 new 30AMP campsite hook-ups along the North side of the facility.
What else remains to be done?
Miscellaneous work in and around the facility.
When will the EEC be done?
We are over 99% completed and hope to wrap it up by 2008.
How long have the IC 4-H HL been working and raising funds for the EEC?
We started in 1996. We are now in our thirteenth year of fund-raising.
Who will benefit from this facility?
Many individuals and organizations as well as the community in general, with a focus on youth. The EEC will provide a positive economic impact to Mt. Pleasant.
How do I know where my contribution will be spent?
The Isabella County 4-H Horse Leaders Association is a 4-H entity and as such is considered a 501©3 non profit organization. All contributions will go towards what is listed on the needs page and the budget page.
What are the plans for securing funding to complete the project?
We have raised over $592,000 and will continue our efforts by pursing grants, fund-raising and securing financial support from individual donors.
What does each phase consist of?
Phase One: 210” x 160” structure. Phase Two added 118 new stalls, the wash area, restroom and shower facilities. Phase Three constructed the remaining 42 new stalls, the office and storage room, installed the remaining components of the sound/PA system, interior plumbing and electrical, concrete and asphalt aisles and a new announcer's booth.
Who is behind this important effort and how will the facility be maintained after completion?
The Isabella County 4-H Horse Leaders and it’s members is the organization raising funds and managing this project under leadership of the barn committee, which is overseen by the Michigan State University Extension office. Operating costs beyond completion will be provided by the Isabella County Fair Board and Isabella County Co-Expo Board.
Why did the 4-H leaders and members decide to take on such an enormous project?
Many reasons! The growth of Mt. Pleasant and the growth of the 4-H Horse membership has expanded to the point of mandating action. This population increase has lead to greater demand from residents for 4-H to offer more services to meet the needs of equestrians. For years we have operated from a facility with limited capacity or have had to use other facilities elsewhere to host programs. Twelve years ago our 4-H organization decided to undertake the construction of the facility that will meet area demand. Simply stated…we have the location, the membership and the need, but did not have the facilities!
Who can I contact should I have questions or to discuss the EEC?
Please contact anyone on the barn committee or you may contact the MSU Extension office. We will direct you to the proper person to assist you. MSU Ext. office (989) 772-0911 ext. 302,  Nancy (EEC Chair) at 989-772-3894, or Janet (Horse Superintendent and President)  989.772.0624.
What fund-raisers are presently planned for 2008?
We have four teams in the Mt. Pleasant Optimist Bowling Challenge on February 9. There will be 3 speed shows at the fairgrounds in the summer. The dates are June 18, July 2 and July 16.
What is PEP?
PEP stands for Proud Equestrian Program. Formerly known as HRH (Horseback Riding for the Handicap) program.
