What is the reason for this expenditure?

It seems that after Michael Fleming was relieved of his duties on June 4, 2004, the Canadian Lakes Property Owners Corporation is going to award him with over $100,000 (approximately based on the total of cash, vehicle and COBRA payments). Not only that, but it now appears that Mr. Fleming "resigned" effective June 24, 2004.

What is this Board doing with our money? I would like to have a copy of Mr. Fleming's contract published for all of the community to see and to have the CLPOC Board justify the expenditure of $100,000 for his termination. If there was just cause for the termination, then there should be a clause in Mr. Fleming's contract that should have allowed the CLPOC to terminate it.

It appears to me that the CLPOC has chosen not to reveal the whole story to the community. We, the Canadian Lakes Property Owners, have a right to know under the Non-Profit Corporations Act. I am not buying the line "We are now moving into a period of change and evolution at Canadian Lakes." Are we to believe this has all been some thought out plan?

A Message to the Community from the Canadian Lakes Property Owners Corporation Board of Directors

(Sent 6/26/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".)

To: All Canadian Lakes Property Owners

On Thursday, June 24 2004 the Board officially accepted the resignation of our General Manager, Michael Fleming. This action is the conclusion of careful consideration and negotiation which was conducted to insure that our relationship with Michael be resolved in the most fair, equitable and effective manner. There has been a tremendous amount of discussion revolving around these actions and it is appropriate that we, to the best of our ability, explain these actions to all Canadian Lakes Property Owners. Canadian Lakes is entering into one of the pivotal periods of its history and development. Canadian Lakes has over time weathered the transition from the development company to a self governed organization and as such has made significant updates, improvements and refurbishment of our facilities over the past few years.

We are now moving into a period of change and evolution at Canadian Lakes. We not only have to determine what we are and what we want to be in the future, we have to decide how to get there. Specifically, this new direction requires that we understand all the elements of funding for the operation and growth of our community, determine the best alternatives possible to select the appropriate level of funding needed and then create an atmosphere where the community can come together as a whole to make the appropriate decisions.

The Board feels that the challenges going forward in the next few years require the support of the majority of our property owners. Now, as we look forward, it is imperative that Canadian Lakes has a general manager who can help unite the entire community. We have started this process with the formation of the Search Committee.

There is no question that Michael Fleming has contributed greatly to our community over the last four years. During this time a very professional organization has been built and currently provides a high level of service. Considering Michael had a three year contract with Canadian Lakes, we have come to an equitable separation. We have paid Michael $75,000 and we have transferred title to his company car (valued at $17,000). In addition, we will pay his COBRA insurance (medical, dental and vision) for a period of time until he is reemployed, not to exceed 18 months.

Please join with us in thanking Michael for his service to the community and wishing the Fleming family well in all their future endeavors.

CLPOC Board Resignations

(Sent 6/27/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".)

Bobbi Skovgard has asked me to inform the community that she resigned from the CLPOC Board of Directors on Sunday, June 27, 2004. And as long as I am sending out that announcement I will also tell you that Ann Mudel resigned from the CLPOC Board of Directors on Saturday, June 26, 2004. Both resignations were effective immediately.

Another Resignation

(Sent 6/28/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".)

From Patty Hockett

I would appreciate it if you would send out an e-mail to all of my friends and loyal customers telling them that I resigned as manager of the Royal Bar and Grill this morning, Monday, June 28th.

I would like to thank all of you for your support over the last four years. The Board is moving in a new direction and I no longer have faith in their support of our amenities, which include the Royal Bar and Grill.

I will be here until July 12th so please feel free to drop in and say good-bye.

Another Resignation

(Sent 6/29/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".) Beckie DeYoung has sent me the following statement:

For the past month I have been torn by a dilemma: how can I even consider resigning from a board that so many of our property owners put me on to do a job for them for a three year period? Such an action goes against my commitment to the community to dedicate three years to serving on the Board and my inherent inner need to complete every job I take on. After many sleepless nights and many tears, and with great sadness, I have come to the realization that the option I must pursue is to resign from the CLPOC Board of Directors effective June 29, 2004.

Restaurant Committee Resignation

(Sent 6/29/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".)

Bob Barrick has asked me to inform the community thet he has resigning from the Restaurant Committee.

Finance Committee Resignation

(Sent 7/1/2004 by Ann Mudel to her e-mail "subscribers".)

To the CLPOC Board and Canadian Lakes Community:

I feel that I can no longer serve on the Financial Committee.
I therefore resign on this day, June 30th, 2004.

Sincerly,
Dick Treharne

These are certainly disturbing occurrences for the community and the CLPOC Board and our volunteer committees. There definitely has to be more to the story than the Board is sending out to the public. Even the original posting from June 4th on the CanadianLakesPOC.org web site stating that "Michael Fleming will no longer serve as our General Manager" has been removed.

Send me an e-mail if you have any questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
