The bodies of Spirit and Soul
It is my hope that the following tools will help us gain a better
understanding of the spirit and soul bodies.
I have taken the liberty, in love, to compile the
following study on the word "heart" as it appears in the Old and New
Testaments {Hebrew and the Greek}. The Hebrew lexicon
is Brown, Driver, Briggs, Gesenius Lexicon; this is keyed to the
"Theological Word Book of the Old Testament." These files are
considered public domain.
- [Jeremiah
17:9] The heart
<03820> is deceitful
above all things, and desperately wicked:
who can know
it?
-
Does this word "heart" not describe the "soul
of man"; the "old man", the natural and base
part of us all?
When the spirits of Adam and Eve died, this "inner man" is
what was left in place to rule over their flesh.
When one is born again of the Spirit of God {made a new creature in Christ} a
new spirit body is given to us wherein the Holy Spirit will dwell until the
day of redemption {the rapture of the Church}. The soul body is the "old
man" that wars against the Spirit of God {which indwells the new
born spirit of the new creature in Christ} for dominion over the
physical body.
That body which is fed the most rules over the physical body. Do we feed
on the Word of God thus allowing the Holy Spirit to rule over our lives or
do we feed on the lusts of the world ie.. {TV, radio, movies, novels,
worldly music and the traditions of men...} thus allowing ourselves
{the old soulish man} to give dominion to Satan over our lives?
Dear reader if you are saved {born again of the Spirit of God} you are a
part of the Church of God.
Choose ye this day whom ye shall serve. As for me and my house we shall serve
the one most high God. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Now let us look at the word "heart" as
used in the KJV New Testament Greek Lexicon
The similarities in the definition of this Greek word and the
previous two Hebrew words are essentially the same when it comes down to their
abstract definitions. But notice here that there is another dimension added
to the meaning of this word in the Greek. It also has a literal application. In
fact the word "kardiva" is the Greek word from whence we get the
English word "Cardio". Have you ever heard of the words "cardiac
arrest" in referring to a heart attack?

I think that it is very profound that the organ that we call the heart is the
same organ that pumps our blood through our veins.
The Word of God says that the life or soul essence is in the blood.
The word translated as the English word "soul" in these verses
is the Hebrew word
"Xpn".
Transliterated it is "Nephesh"
and pronounced as
"neh'-fesh ".
It is the very same word translated as the English word "life"
in these verses as well.
This means that the word "life" and the word "soul" are
one in the same. It means that the "soul body" is the basic essence
of the "life" of the flesh. It is what animates the flesh. It is
what will rule over the flesh if we do not bring it under subjection to the
Spirit of God.
Hence, the Apostle Paul would call us to "die to self". The
"self" is the "soul" or "old man".
Let's look at a few verses from
[Mathew
16:24-26] for more clarity. Our Lord is speaking
to the disciples meaning that he is speaking to saved individuals. Men who
have been born again of the Spirit of God.
Here again God tells us that the English word "life" and the
English word "soul" are the same word but this time these
English words are translated from the Greek language; not the Hebrew language.
This development should have huge ramifications for the Christian.
The word "himself" reinforces the truth that the soul-life of man is
the essence of the self or old man that would rule over the flesh if we
allowed it to do so. The soul wants to be it's own god.
God has stated over and over again "Place no other gods before Me!"
This is what got Lucifer in trouble and it is what got Eve in trouble and it
is what will get you and I in trouble if we allow the soul to rule.
Lucifer's lie {"you can be just like God"} is the oldest lie ever
told.
If the blood is poured out then it can be said that the
"soul" or "life" is poured out as well.
So now we see in the type that the soul of one creature is
poured out for the atonement of the sins of Israel. In the anti-type {Jesus
Christ} we see His soul-blood being poured out for all men for the atonement
of their sins.

Christ is our example. If he poured out His life for the atonement for
the sins of the world {that includes us} then should we not be willing to
"die to ourselves" so that Christ may live through our flesh?
May our Lord God and Saviour bless you mightily as we progress toward
the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Your servant in Christ,
brother Sam
