Lab Safety

In The Materials Engineering Lab

• Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab. You will have to supply your own.
• You must wear closed-toed shoes and socks, no sandals (no Birkenstocks).
• You must wear long pants, no shorts or skirts.
• You must confine long hair.
• You must wear gloves when handling hot samples or sharp metal. These will be provided for you. You must NOT wear gloves when grinding a sample.
• No horse play in the lab, it will not be tolerated at all.
• No food or drinks are allowed in the lab including candy and gum.
• You must wear both safety glasses and a face shield working with grinder or bending metal in a vice.
• And remember that hot metals may not always look hot, that is even though they are not glowing they still may be hot enough to give you a severe burn.
• If you are hurt in the lab you must report it to the instructor or the lab aide immediately.
