Lab Safety

In
The Materials Engineering Lab
- Safety glasses must be worn
at all times in the lab. You will have to supply your own.
- You must wear closed-toed
shoes and socks, no sandals (no Birkenstocks).
- You must wear long pants, no
shorts or skirts.
- You must confine long hair.
- You must wear gloves when
handling hot samples or sharp metal. These will be provided for you. You
must NOT wear gloves when grinding a sample.
- No horse play in the lab, it
will not be tolerated at all.
- No food or drinks are allowed
in the lab including candy and gum.
- You must wear both safety
glasses and a face shield working with grinder or bending metal in a vice.
- And remember that hot metals
may not always look hot, that is even though they are not glowing they
still may be hot enough to give you a severe burn.
- If you are hurt in the lab
you must report it to the instructor or the lab aide immediately.
