DVD to SVCD

 

Applications Needed

1.    Forty-TwoDVD-MPPlus ($$)

2.    Toast Titanium 6.0 ($$)

3.    FFMPEGX ($$)

 

Step 1: Determine Bitrate For Encoding Process

By nature, SVCD is 2500 kb/s but this can sometime yield an uneven amount of .bin files or yield a bin file that is not a full 805 megs.  

 

  1. Open FFMPEGX
  2. Under BITRATE CALCULATOR you will see several fields for information
  3. _____ min keep in:   Set this to be the length of the movie you are going to encode.  If you donÕt know how long the movie is, look it up.  www.imdb.com offers running lengths in min for almost ever DVD ever made!
  4. ___ CDÕs of 80 min Mode-1   set the number of cds (# of image files) you want
  5. Click TIME and you will get your k/sec displayed in the VIDEO BITRATE portion
  6. Copy that rate down

 

Step 2: Convert DVD to SVCD using Forty-Two

  1. Open Forty-TwoDVD-MPPlus
  2. Drag your DVD to the Box in the Window
  3. Once the scan is complete you now have your option of conversions
  4. Set OUTPUT OPTIONS to SVCD
  5. Click CUSTOM RATE and enter the k/sec for your encoding process as determined above.
  6. Click COPY DVD CHAPTER MARKS
  7. Click START
  8. Depending on your processor speed this can take a few hours or a long time

 

Step 2: Burn Resulting .bin/.cue Files To Cdr

1.     Locate your .bin/.cue files as saved by Forty-Two. 

  1. Preview them in VLC by dragging and dropping the .bin to VLCÕs icon
  2. If you are satisfied with the product and the file size of each .bin/.cue they are ready to burn
  3. Open Toast 6
  4. Choose COPY
  5. Click BIN/CUE files from the left hand menu
  6. Drag the .cue file for the .bin to Toast and click burn
  7. Repeat for each .bin/.cue set
