Support local hospice providers

Hospice realizes just how important home is.

Shortly after our dad was diagnosed, we asked him if there was anything that he wanted to do, anyplace he wanted to go. Maybe a cruise? The Grand Canyon? He said no, he didn't want to go anywhere. He wanted to stay home. So, we wanted that too. We wanted him to live out his days in the home he built with his own two hands. His home, where family could visit and stay as long as they liked, where friends could swing by any time, even whisk him away for an afternoon with the guys. We were lucky - we were able to keep my dad at home through his illness. Because Marquette General Home Health and Hospice was there.

It took us a while to get used to the idea of having these strangers in our home. They came to help Dad eat dinner, bathe, and get around. It wasn't long before we knew them all by name and relied on them for more than our father's medical care. What they brought to these visits was what our family needed most -- advice, comfort and, a sense of humor. We had a lot of questions for the aides, and they answered what they could from their experiences. Dad had new people to try out his old "knee-slapper" jokes on. Hearing him chuckle at his own wit, we were reminded that although his body was slowing down, Dad was still in there somewhere.

Marquette General Home Health and Hospice was with us through it all, and my family will forever be grateful for their kindness. We will be accepting donations to hospice organizations at the walk, and urge you to be generous in your support.

The butterfly is the international symbol of hospice,

signifying the transformation into a new life.
