2010 Walk in the Park
2010 was a record-breaking year for Walk in the Park--the pavilion was overflowing with 180 walkers that sunny July morning!
This year's walk was dedicated to the memory of Amy Chenier Kositzke, who passed away in 2010 after a brave five-year battle with a brain tumor. When Amy walked with us in the past, she always brought her positive spirit and her contagious smile. Amy's mother Nancy spoke of the brightness her daughter brought to the world, and of her faith and unyielding hope. The balloon release was led by Amy's husband Todd, and we watched his and others' dedications drift through the trees and over the lake while listening to David M. Bailey's song "Share Hope."
The Anderson family held their always successful bake sale with coffee and every bread and muffin flavor imaginable, and the post-walk raffle and silent auction brought in even more help for brain tumor research.
Jim LaJoie, president of the Marquette General Foundation, and Dr. Rich Rovin of the UMBTC joined us for the walk this year. Dr. Rovin spoke about how the money raised by the walk is being used for brain tumor research and support.
A special thanks to our wonderful volunteers: Dolores Hanson, Denise Makosky, Cathy Johnson, and Geri Tate. This year, we raised over $7,000 for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center through the Marquette General Foundation, bringing our grand total to over $32,000 raised since our first walk in 2005. Thanks to all the walkers, donors, and sponsors who continue to awe us with their generous support. |
