Kate Soffel is married to Warden Peter Soffel.
The time is around 1900. Kate likes to read
passages from the Bible to the prisoners, and
in doing this meets Ed and Jack Biddle.
They've been sentenced to hang for murder.
While giving spiritual comfort Kate is drawn to their plight
and, finds herself passionately attracted to
prisoner Ed Biddle. Then Kate commits the unthinkable.
She not only helps them escape but abandons her husband and children
and goes on the run with them out into the freezing
countryside.
