Braveheart is at the top of my favorite films list. I totally fell in love with this movie. It's a beautiful film. An inspirational story about a man's love for a woman, his passion for his country's freedom, and his courage and strength to fight for it. An Icon Production 10 Oscar Nominations with 5 Oscars Won!! The film brought Mel two Oscars: One for Best Picture and one for Best director. (Yeah!) Also for Braveheart, Jon Toll won for Cinematography; Lon Bender, Per Hallberg for Sound Effects Editing; and Peter Frampton (II) , Paul Pattison, Lois Burwell for Makeup. Nominations were: Best Music, Original Dramatic Score James Horner; Best Film Editing: Steven Rosenblum; Best Sound: Anna Behlmer, Scott Millan, Andy Nelson (I) , Brian Simmons Best Costume Design: Charles Knode; Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen: Randall Wallace This was only Mel' s second time out as director but the film came off as though he's been doing it his whole career. Personally, I think he should have gotten Best Male Actor for his portrayal as William Wallace, Randall Wallace should have received an Oscar for the story and James Horner, an Oscar for his hauntingly beautiful musical score. There was a promotional video at one time you could rent from Blockbuster on the Making of Braveheart called A Director's Passion. Possibly it can still be rented from there. Very interesting and fun to watch.
