Have full responsibility for Adero's entire technical organization, approximately 40 engineers, comprised of architects, developers, systems engineers and QA. Redefined the focus for the team, creating the concept of three-month deliverables and raising the priority of key efforts.
  • Drove successful implementation of 4 releases to the Adero network in 2 months.

  2/00-4/01 Engineering Director, Engineering Services
Joined Adero in its second year of business to establish software practices and disciplines. Adero provides a high performance content management service worldwide by re-directing network traffic to an Adero server which caches web content closer to the end user.
  • Developed a program management office to oversee complex projects, and to establish cross-functional business and engineering teams. This office also coordinated the design of the ContentBridge data center, an environment capable of processing and storing 1M lines of web server logs per minute.
  • Built Adero's first quality organization, growing the team from one inexperienced engineer to 6 individuals. Established hand-off procedures and built relationships between the development team and deployment/operations groups.
  • Established Adero's test network, made up of a small replication of the Adero GlobalWise service. The test network included an Oracle database for customer tracking and log processing, DNS traffic re-directors, edge caches, and Java based web sites. All test systems were Solaris and Linux based. Test suites were comprised primarily of manual Perl scripts, with one automation tool (Mercury Interactive's Astra Quicktest) used for an e-commerce application.


 GENICOM Corporation, Boxborough, MA.
  1997-1999 Engineering Director, Software and Multifunction Products
Directed product development and technical support of networked printing solutions for the Digital/Compaq and GENICOM markets. The product set consisted of printer hardware, firmware, host drivers and utilities, developed by both GENICOM and external vendors. Software was developed using C and C++ across four operating systems, (Windows NT/9x, UNIX, Macintosh and OpenVMS), supporting TCP/IP, NetWare, LAT and Appletalk network environments.
  • Delivered 20 printers and their related software in 2 years, completely refreshing Digital’s printer product line, developing a Compaq product line, and enhancing the GENICOM product line.
  • Created GENICOM's first pure software development organization, delivering printer host drivers and network management tools.
  • Launched a new SNMP management software tool that provided remote management across a WAN/LAN environment.
  • Established Quality focus within GENICOM, by organizing testing efforts within development and support teams. This integration enabled earlier bug detection, improved product quality, and advanced customer delivery, with fewer resources.
  • Coordinated operations management and product development with multiple organization and teams within GENICOM, and with worldwide vendors.
  • Managed all technical personnel in Boxborough, MA office, as well as technical support personnel in GENICOM's Waynesboro, VA office.

Managed operations and was Chief of Staff for a $200M worldwide business,
supporting 10 senior managers and 240 employees.

  • Coordinated Digital to GENICOM transition of Printing Systems Business team.
  • Organized successful recognition and retention effort, keeping this development and support organization viable during a difficult transition period.
  1990-1996 Engineering Manager, Components and Peripherals
Managed first a software testing, and later an Engineering Services organization, which provided technical services to groups developing Video, Printer, and OEM product solutions. Technical services included hardware, software, and firmware testing, release engineering, and computing system support.
  • Built a highly skilled testing organization, creating test strategies for complex networked products. Introduced test automation to the process, and instituted Segue's QA Partner as the primary tool used for software product testing.
  • Using the 6 Sigma quality methods, introduced process improvements to development groups, reducing errors found in testing phase by 20%.
  • Developed the skill-set of the Engineering Services organization to seamlessly support three dynamic businesses with a consistent level of personnel.
  • Managed transition of over 200 business personnel and engineers from a VAX environment to a Windows NT server based environment.

  1988-1990 Software Engineering Supervisor, Video, Image and Printing Solutions
Supervised three testing groups, a total of 12 engineers, qualifying video terminals and printers, prior to first customer release. Initiated the first team to test software utilities. Tests were developed on custom test harness using scripts developed in BLISS and C.
  • Earned an excellence award for managing complex testing efforts.
  1983-1988 Software Engineer, Terminals Business Unit
Developed test strategies, plans, and procedures for performing black box testing of video terminal and printer firmware. Tests were developed in BLISS, a Digital proprietary programming language, and exercised ANSI control sequences. Project leader of four test engineers.
  • Successfully established a cooperative education program. This program was designed to attract and retain talented students, achieving this goal through 1996.
