How I found your page: Searched for Fergus through search engine
Comments about the web site: My husband's family is descended from George Fergus born in Wexford Ireland, son of John Fergus and Johanna Doyle. George turned up in Australia circa 1855 and to date I have been unable to locate his name on any passenger list. Rumour has it that he spent some time in the US before arriving in Australia. Most of this family in Australia now uses the variation of the name - Fergeus. Looking for anyone with a George born circa 1835 or John born circa 1804 in their family who could be related as they do not appear to have originated in Wexford.

How I found your page: received a letter from you
Comments about the web site: I received your letter today October 4, 2004 for information regarding my family. Your letter was dated September 25, 2004. I don't have a lot of information to give you regarding your inquiry, however, I will give you what I have. My father was Isaac Fergus, son of Isaac James Fergus and Eliza Jane Gratten of Northern Ireland. My father came to Montreal Canada in about 1932, his family were beef cattle dealers(farmers)their last farm residence was Creevey, (Doughery) Northern Ireland. I beleive his father had a cousin (James)who went to New Zealand? My grandfather had 7 children, Ida, Lily, Cissy, David, Robert,Isaac and William (who died when he was about 17). My father had two children, myself and my brother Joseph, my brother is married but has no children and I am single with no children. We are the last of the linage with regards to the family name. My father married Rose Anna Gravel, both parents are deceased, both at the age of 85 years. My father trade was shoe salesman (he had a shoe store in Belfast N.I. when he was just 21,the store went into bankrupsy) where he apprenticed in shoes, but later went into textile fabrics, when he came to Canada he was a Buyer, Manager and Salesman for men and boy's clothing, he also worked a a buyer for the Federal Government as a buyer for caps for the armed forces. His birth certificate showed only his name and place of birth Register's District, Loughbrickland Northern Ireland, the Birth certifcate also showed at the top, Bambridge Northern Ireland, born Novermber 15, 1903. I believe that two of his sisters has a shop in Belfast Northern Ireland, and it was bombed, back in the 1970 or 1980's. Dad did go home after 50 years to see his brothers and sisters, one sister and two brothers never married. I would be very interested in knowing more about his parents, my grandparents. I don't know if this helps you, I too am curious, as we didn't get a lot of information from my Dad. Yours truly, Madeleine Fergus, 1404-3300 Don Mills Rd., Toronto (North York) Ontario, Canada M2J 4X7 Telephone: 416-491-1899

How I found your page: Cynthia contacted me when I was having difficulty with a Kerry site.
Comments about the web site: Thank you for this wonderful site. My father, Edward Fergus, is a decendant of two brothers Fergus who came from the North of Ireland to Mayo to fight the English army at Crossmolina in 1798. Napoleon sent a paltry contingent to help the Irish. Strictly a case of half measures. The Fergus brothers fled into the bogs after the battle and the English soldiers followed them and the others. At Dooleeg, in Mayo, a young woman saw them hiding in the bog and, risking her life, took them in. Later she married one of them. I am more interested in the personalities of the Fergus's.
