Custom POI Tutorial

This is my first attempt at writing a tutorial so bare with me so we can get thru this together.

The first thing you're going to need is the POI Loader from Garmin. It can be found here:
POI Loader for Windows
POI Loader for Mac

After you have it downloaded install it to your computer.

The next thing you want to do is create a folder on your computer called MY POI or something of that nature. Below is a picture of what it looks like on my harddrive. (It has been suggested that this POI folder be created  here: C:/Documents and Settings/My POIs/ for XP and C:/users/myuser/Documents and Settings/My POIs for Vista and Win7 as many users have security that prevents them from creating folders at the C:/ root level.)

The next is to set up a subfolder in the My POI folder called Honda Dealer. Again below is a picture of how it looks on my harddrive. You can add as many subfolders as you like to load as many POI's as you like. There are plenty available on the web for free.

Next download the zip file Here and unzip it's files and put them in the Honda Dealer subfolder that you created.  It should look like the next picture. There will be the Honda_Dealer.bmp, Honda_Dealer.gpx, & Honda_Dealer.mp3 file it the folder. The Honda_Dealer.bmp (Honda Icon ) won't show up unless you're zoomed in to .3 of a mile. There are 1339 dealers and a couple of independent Honda repair shops in the US and Canada included in this POI file. This file should work on the StreetPilot series from 2720 to 2820 plus all ZUMO's and it is dialable.
(Due to a request I have uploaded a zip file of the .csv file HERE)

Standard Disclaimer:
These files are provided as a courtesy to other riders and you assume all responsibility for subsequent use of these files.

I cannot attest to the currency of the data in this file. I did spot-check some of the dealerships.

The next thing is to connect your GPS to your computer via USB cable and start POI Loader. It should be located in the Garmin folder on your start menu.
