Troop 8's newest Eagle Scout is Tad Whitmire who successfully completed his B.O.R. in January of 2008. Tad has worked hard to achieve scouting's highest rank. We wish to recognize Tad's dedication, effort, and determination required to achieve his goal. Congratulations Tad well done! To all: The next camping event is the Father-Son campout slated for Fathers Day weekend, June 15,16,17, 2007. The membership voted to go to Kinzua Creek recreation area in the National Forest, but since that decision, I have heard some discontent as to the location. After a meeting with the Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, an interest has been expressed to the upcoming French & Indian War Re-enactment at Custaloga Town Scout Reserve that same weekend. The information links for this event are attached. From what is available on their web site, the admission is free with parking. It does not mention Boy Scout camping. I will contact the French Creek Council SSC Monday morning to request camping information and will pass this to Scott and Mike for re-consideration at the troop meeting Monday evening. http://www.trailmarker.com/~fccbsa/Activities/2007/CTSR-FIR07.htm http://www.paladincom.com/custaloga.shtml http://www.paladincom.com/custalogaschedule.shtmlThe new scouting year kick-off is July 1st and Troop 8 has some exciting plans coming up. Independence Day Parade, July 4th plans are coming together. We need volunteers to pull this event off. The plans are to have our Color Guard march with the membership and put the Troop 8 trailer, a Troop 8 float (hay wagon with depicted camp site on the float) and a borrowed canoe trailer (with canoes) from Camp Olmsted. We need to acquire/buy banners to hang from the float and canoe trailer with the messages of "Let’s go Camping with Troop 8" and "Troop 8, First Presbyterian Church, Warren, PA." I will contact a local auto dealer to borrow trucks to tow all three trailers. The boys want to pass out candy too! Summer Camp is July 7-14 2007. Health forms need to be completed and turned in before camp. The Class 1 form must be completed each year. The Class 2 form is good for 35 months. Be sure to check the date of your last form. High Adventure, Camp outing on the Allegheny Reservoir is planned for August 10,11,12, 2007. Camping plans involve a canoe departure from the waterfront near Lampe Lodge to a boat access campsite on the reservoir and a day hike on the second day. All members are encouraged to pass the BSA swim test at summer camp in July. If you are not able to be at summer camp, please contact me to make plans to test with a BSA approved lifeguard or BSA Swimming Merit Badge counselor. The swim test is good for one year for all camp outings. Yours in Scouting, Gregg Trisket Scoutmaster Troop 8 Warren, PA. |
