Father Bruno’s Christmas Letters
Dear Friends,
God grant that this
Christmas Season finds you and your loved ones well and happy, that is to say,
I hope that the “HAPPY NEW YEAR” we wished one another about this time a year
ago came true for all of you as it did again for me. And if perchance sorrow or some reversal of fortune did visit you
during 1993, please God you were able to weather it by having the firm
conviction that the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ permitted it for the greater
spiritual good of your own soul and the souls of those you love. After all, God’s Love for us is without
measure, and both His infinite Wisdom and His infinite Power are at the service
of that Love. Indeed, the birth of His
Only Begotten Son into time as one of us in order to be our Redeemer is
overwhelming proof of that. How
fortunate we are to see in Christmas not only irrefutable evidence of that
Love, but also a vivid reminder that neither the father, nor the Son nor the
Holy Spirit ever “gives up on us”, so that we may never “give up on them”.
Since last Christmas I have
been transferred from Peterborough, NH, to our monastery here at Brighton, MA
(You may already know that) and given a new job in the Province. I am now the “assistant” Mission Procurator,
which means that I assist the Mission Procurator (our Fr. Giles) in the task of
raising funds to help support our Friars who are engaged in “missionary”
endeavors and their ministries.
Chiefly, that means making “mission appeals” at all the weekend masses
at parishes in those dioceses where the Bishops allow us to participate in a
Mission Cooperative Plan. The “season”
for mission appeals begins about mid-Spring and lasts till about mid-October. Between now and next Spring I hope to
complete a course of “readings” in Missiology with a view to being better able
to do my job, particularly since I am expected to take over as “the” Mission
Procurator next July.
In the event you don’t
already have my new address, it is:
Discalced Carmelite Friars
166 Foster Street
Brighton, MA 02135-3902
Wishing you and your dear
ones the fullest possible measure of Christmas peace and joy, and asking God to
grant all of you a New Year rich in graces and blessings, I remain, as ever,
yours
With fraternal affection
in the Infant Savior,
