Option 1 -
5k/10k/13k Begins at Netul Landing area of Ft. Clatsop.
About 1k along the first half of the route that Lewis & Clark took
from the 1805 winter headquarters at Ft. Clatsop to the Pacific
Ocean. 5k route is rated 1: 10k & 13k are rated
3. No charge for parking or for walking the trail, but if you go
into the Visitor's Center or the Fort replica, National Park Fees
apply. Vault toilet available in the Netul parking area.
Carry water. Mosquito repellent advisable during the summer.
Option 2 - 10k, rated 2. Out and back begins at the Sunset Beach
trailhead, crosses the Skipanon River, passes the Pioneer Presbyterian
Church and cemetery to the 1/2 way point of the Fort-to-Sea
trail. This part of the trail crosses pasture where you may
encounter a herd of cattle grazing or resting. Vault toilet in
the parking area. Carry water. Mosquito repellent advisable
during the summer.
Option 3 - Walk from the Ft. Clatsop Visitor Center to the Sunset Beach
trailhead. 10k one way and requires pick up at the end of the
trail. Shuttles usually operate during the summer months, but
call the Ft. Clatsop Visitor Center @ (503) 861-2471 to verify
availability and cost. During the fall, winter and spring, a cab
or wait car must be arranged.
The Fort-to-Sea trail wends its way through the woods from Fort Clatsop
to Sunset Beach on the Pacific Ocean, covering land that once was home
to the Clatop Indians. While the Trail is navigable in any
weather, please note that rain can make the trail slick in some places
and muddy in others. Also, while the abundant wildlife that you
might see, such as deer, elk, eagles, bear, bobcat or beaver, might be
shy, the domesticated animals, such as cows, you can encounter in
the pastures on the south side of US 101 might not be.
