Event YRE #1702 consists of 3 loops. Town loop is 10km, rated 1+, with
a 2
km option, rated 3. The two 10 km beach loops are rated 1.
Choose your distance and your route.
Restroom at walk start
point. None along the beach loops. Restroom may be
available during the summer at the City Park on the Town Loop.
Carry water.
The town route is nearly flat, on city streets, sidewalks
and country roads through a quiet, resort beach community. Route passes
a 'red caboose', currently used as a Visitor Information Center. A
short stretch parallels the Port of Tillamook Bay railroad tracks,
(excursion train operates during summer between Garibaldi and Rockaway
Beach). A 2km option ascends a long steep hill for a magnificent ocean
vista.
The other two 10km options are on the Pacific Ocean
beach. Walk north 5k and return, and/or south 5k and
return. Recommend carrying plastic bags to put over your shoes to cross
small streams that drain into the ocean. Great beachcombing,
especially after a storm. The south 5k qualifies for the WOC 4A's
(arches) because of the view of Twin Rocks.
Do NOT walk on the
beach during inclement
weather. Read and heed posted beach cautions and rules.
The Rockaway Beach Town Route qualifies
for the following National Program:
