Position: Executive Officer/XO
Responsibilities:
The XO is second in command and is responsible for execution of orders from superior officers, namely the Captain. He/She is the commander of the crew and makes command decisions in accordance with Klingon procedures and the Captain's wishes.
Sim:
The XO has a rough idea of what the outcome of a sim will be and will guide the other officers in the right direction while building on their ideas and suggestions. When on the bridge the XO will work with the department heads and relay suggestions to the Captain. The XO will lead 99% of away team missions. Pay close attention to the XO's logs, they will contain many clues on how to prepare for upcoming sims.
Position: Second Officer/SO
Responsibilities:
The SO is third in command and is responsible for the execution of orders from superior officers, namely the XO or if the XO is absent the Captain. He/She is the secondary commander of the crew and makes command decisions in accordance with Klingon procedures and the XO's/CO's wishes.
Sim:
The SO will have a very general idea of what the outcome of a sim will be and will guide the other officers in the right direction while building on their ideas and suggestions. The SO will work at his/her assigned duty station unless called for by either the XO or the Captain to perform another duty. The SO will handle 99% of away missions when the XO is absent. Pay close attention to the SO's logs, they will contain some clues on how to prepare for upcoming sims.
Position: Helm
Responsibilities:
The Helm officer steers the ship. The Helm can also handle sensors and monitor the status of the ship (however this is usually handled by Operations or Tactical).
Sim:
This position can be slow at times, so it is ok to work with Operations and Tactical in some situations. During times of high-risk maneuvers it's a key position on the ship.
Main Duties:
- Responsible for piloting and navigation, receives orders from the Captain, XO, or SO.
- Navigational/Course setting
- Supervision of auto flight operations
- Manual flight operations
- Position verification
- Propulsion systems status and gives status reports as needed
- May be asked to pilot shuttles on various missions
Position: Operations/OPS
Responsibilities:
The Operations Officer is a bit of a utility man/woman who does a little of everything. The Operations Officer is in short a "Jack of All Trades" and should monitor all happenings in a sim. This is one of the key positions that the Captain/XO/SO will depend on.
Sim:
The Operations Officer should coordinate with Helm, Engineering, and Tactical and report any suggestions to the SO or XO. This position can be challenging during battle situations.
Main Duties:
- Coordinates scheduling resources or hardware. (such as power or use of scanners)
- Responsible supervisor of power allocation in coordination with Engineering
- Allocates use of the Main computer
- Responsible for providing general status information
- Responsible for communications relays and frequencies for away missions
- Provides transporter coordinates to transporter chief
- Backup for Helm
- Damage control reports of the ship (Does Not report on the condition of enemy ships)
Position: Tactical/TAC
Responsibilities:
The Tactical Officer is in charge of ship-wide defense, the ship's weapons, shields, cloaking devices, tractor beams, and most importantly second by second damage reports as it is being inflicted on the ship.
Sim:
This is one the more exciting positions on the ship because Tactical is involved with the action packed starship battles. The Tactical Officer should be suspicious about every unknown vessel we come in contact with.
Main Duties:
- Defensive systems control
- The ship's defensive shields and weapons
- The ship's cloaking devices
- Coordinates with Helm in all operations involving external hazards
- Targeting data
- Long and short range sensor arrays
- Sensor probes, message buoys, and tractor beams
- Reports of damage inflicted on enemy vessels
Position: Chief of Security/CSEC & Assistant Security/ASEC
Responsibilities:
Responsible for all internal security on the ship and all away team missions.

Position: Chief Engineer/CENG & Assistant Engineer/AENG
Responsibilities:
The Engineers are the mechanics of the ship. They are responsible for all power generation, computer systems, and propulsion systems.
Sim:
The Engineers are the miracle workers of the ship. When the Captain asks for the impossible he/she looks to his/her Engineers. They usually work in Engineering but can work on the bridge at a computer console if necessary. The Chief Engineer is the only one who will contact the bridge unless one of the Assistant Engineers has been given instructions to do so. Otherwise standard protocol dictates that the Assistant Engineers will contact the Chief Engineer and he/she will decide whether or not it warrants contacting the bridge.
Main Duties:
- All ship maintenance
- Maintaining the warp core and engine capacity
- Environmental systems
- Transporters
- Shuttles
- Damage repair in conjunction with damage control teams
- Will be asked to go on some away team missions
Position: Chief Surgeon/CS & Assistant Surgeon/AS
Responsibilities:
They are responsible for the wellness of the crew and treating the injured. The CS has the authority to remove anyone from duty for medical reasons, including the Captain, XO, and SO. The CS runs sickbay and all communications go through the CS. In other words the AS under the CS will not contact the bridge directly unless the CS is on an away mission or explicit instructions have been given to the AS granting permission to do so.
Sim:
This is one of the hardest positions to play but it can also be the most recognized. The medical team should make sure that the crew is in good health by performing routine physicals. Medical personnel are almost always in sick bay but will frequently go on away team missions, especially when casualties are reported.
Main Duties:
- Maintain sickbay
- Maintain the physical well being of the crew
- Coordinate with the EMH if overloaded with casualties
- Responsible for a battle ready sickbay
Position: Chief Science Officer/CSCI & Assistant Science Officer/ASCI
Responsibilities:
The Science Officers are responsible for analyzing anything that the ship may encounter while traveling through space. This includes analyzing any unknown and or suspicious vessels that the ship may come across such as vessels that are adrift.

- Monitoring and maintaining environmental control
- Various away team duties
- Back up to sickbay

The Squadron commander takes his/her orders from the Captain of the carrier ship that he/she is attached to and then is responsible for formulating a plan of attack and then briefing his/her Pilots.
Sim:
The Pilots and the Squadron Commander will deploy during any hostile situation where the carrier or the vessels it is escorting/supporting have come under fire. While the carrier can defend itself it is slow to turn and can easily be outmaneuvered by most any ship during combat. Thus the fighter pilots have a great responsibility for keeping the ship safe from harm.
Main Duties:
- Carrier group support and protection
- Protection of escorted vessels
- Atmospheric combat
- Planetary landings
