Galea Wildlife Consulting maintains a staff of experienced field biologists. Our policy is to hire biologists who have earned or are in the process of obtaining a Bachelor or Masters degree in the wildlife sciences and who have at least one season of experience working with endangered species. Most of our employees have several years of survey experience. We stress professionalism, integrity, independence, efficiency and safety when hiring personnel.

  For the 2006 field season GWC is looking for field wildlife biologists and a botanist with specific experience and skills. We anticipate a very busy field season, beginning in March, and will therefore be interviewing and hiring early in 2006. Please read the following carefully as only those applicants who meet the minimum criteria will be contacted for an interview:

FIELD WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST POSITIONS:

MINIMUM CRITERIA: If you do not meet the following three criteria you should not apply:

  1. 4-year completed degree in wildlife management, zoology or closely-related field;
  2. at least one full season experience in calling and locating northern spotted owls;
  3. ability to work independently in adverse conditions, including mountainous terrain in snow or rain, for extended periods which may include camping alone for up to one week.

Preferred Experience and Abilities: If you have any or all of these abilities you should discuss each in turn, with examples, in your cover letter:

  1. Experience in northern goshawk survey and identification;
  2. Experience in bat surveys;
  3. Experience in identification and survey of boreal or other raptor species;
  4. Experience with ATV=s, snowmobiles, GPS equipment, 4X4 vehicles and repair, wilderness and snow survival, first aid;
  5. Excellent swimmer with experience in snorkeling, river rafting;
  6. Experience with project permitting;
  7. Experience in team supervision.

FIELD BOTANIST POSITION:

MINIMUM CRITERIA: If you do not meet the following three criteria you should not apply:

  1. 4-year completed degree in botany or closely-related field;
  2. at least one full season experience in wetland plants plus rare and sensitive plant identification
  3. ability to work independently in adverse conditions, including mountainous terrain in rain, for extended periods which may include camping alone for up to one week.

Preferred Experience and Abilities: If you have any or all of these abilities you should discuss each in turn, with examples, in your cover letter:

  1. Experience in northern goshawk survey and identification;
  2. Experience in bat surveys;
