Sorry these are just pictures for now, no descriptions or anything.
Twenty-eight years ago, a girl from New Jersey moved to Michigan. The locals laughed at her accent, calling her "that goil from Joisy". Her first dolls weren't those pretty Gerber babies; they startled people, they made them laugh. "Ugly as those things that sit on the cathedrals", hence the name: Gar'goils'.

Started out making cloth dolls for my daughter; washable one for small babies. But faces were my favorite part and soft sculpture gave me that opportunity. My neighbors became my models. |
I began making miniatures in 1983, a shop opened in town and I discovered Fimo and Cernit. The dollhouse dolls she offered were stiff and fake; and I wanted to create dolls with a bit of character. I'm still working at it. |
The miniature carvings came next; about 1and a 1/4" tall; as accessories to the dolls. That blossomed into carving canes from odd shaped branches. Now our house alternates between cooking clay and piles of wood chips. |
Recently, my husband dragged me, kicking and screaming, onto the net. There I found more information on polymer-clay than I thought possible. Most of the posts were about caning pendants and covering pens. Caning I haven't tried yet; but I made my own versions of clay covered pens; complete with stands, and a bit of whimsy. |
