The Cozy Mark IV is a fiberglass composite canard amateur built aircraft designed by Nat Puffer. I have put this web page together to chronicle the building of my bird for family, friends, and fellow builders. I hope you enjoy this as much as I am enjoying building!

Why build and why the Cozy? I have recently received my private pilot certificate and have been renting a plane. I have realized that I will not be able to rent for my main need, cross country flying. So I started to look at buying my own plane. All the planes that I thought I could afford were slow and old. Not my idea of a good buy.

So I started to look at experimental aircraft. I have always loved to build things (RC Model Airplanes, furniture, chemical plants, etc.). I came across the Cozy and after looking at its specs, I suspected that I may have found the plane. It has a range of 1000 miles and it will do that in about 5-6 hours! The top speed is 187 knots, cruise is 160 knots. I researched the plane for the next 2 months, reviewing articles and builders web sites. I decided to take the plunge in August 2005 and bought the plans.

I did this all without seeing a plane in real life (crazy, huh!). Well, I finally got to fly in one over Thanksgiving 2005. Thanks to Dan Cruger in Apopka, FL. You can see pictures in the Builders Area.

NEW » See my son’s, Stephen Garmon, Fleet of Canards!  Also a Cozy at the Hanger. He finished his Cozy before I could finish mine. He used Bryce in Digital Graphics class at High School.
