I was born in Oklahoma
and lived for a few years in the little town of Mingo. When I was 14 years old my dad got a job as
an administrator in the Peace Corps. My
dad, mom, younger brother, and I moved to Kuching, Sarawak,
on the Island of Borneo. We stayed there for almost a year. Then we moved to Upland,
California, where I graduated
from high
school.
I graduated from a local
junior college, Chaffey,
after two
years, in 1968, with an Associate Arts Degree in general education. I graduated from Cal Poly, San
Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in
1971, with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.
I earned a teaching certificate in 1975 and
started teaching high school classes at Templeton
High School in the Templeton
Unified School
District
in 1976. In that district I have also
taught in the junior high school. For
the last ten years I have been teaching and running the Independent
Study
Program in the district.
My government political
activities began in 1988 when I
joined the Libertarian Party and
started operating an informational booth at Farmers Market in San
Luis Obispo. I have
been very active in the party ever
since. In 1992 and 1998, I ran for The
State Assembly. I ran for the Atascadero
City Council in 1996, I think. I could
be wrong on some of the years.
My immediate family
consists of my wife of 33 years,
Marilyn, a nurse; three sons, Tom, Brian, and Mike; and my daughter,
Sarah.
I have lived in Atascadero
since the
year 1976. I coached in youth soccer for six years.
My children attended school in the Atascadero
Unified School
District. My
wife and I were members of the boosters
clubs.
My hobbies include: Scuba
diving, ultimate Frisbee, tennis,
and Trivial Pursuit.
