Text Box: Avondale works because people like you choose to participate. While you might not participate in these annual events, you participate by keeping your lawn mowed, or keeping an eye on neighborhood kids as they play after school. You might participate in Avondale by helping a neighbor with a project or by seeking approval from architectural control before cutting down a tree in your yard.
So what’s with all this PARTICIPATION, anyway? As you know, this year we have been working on the implementation of the “fining” addition to our covenants. For those (continued on page 3)

In addition, our neighbors did their part for the environment by participating in our annual Toxic Waste Roundup. I hope you took advantage of these events to help with your spring cleaning. You just received a phone call.  A friend and her kids are in the area and would like to drop by.  You graciously accept the impromptu visit, even offering to serve a meal.  (Are you crazy?)  Here are a few quick  tips to get the house in order before company arrives.

Know what you are going to serve.  Take out any items that need to be thawed so they will be thoroughly defrosted in time.  Also take out any dishes, glassware and silverware that will be used so you can be sure it is clean.

Determine what areas will be primary entertaining areas.  If you’re having a formal dinner, then the dining room is a

necessity.  If you will be spending time primarily in the living room, then make sure that area is tidy.

Close off rooms or areas that you will not be using.  Don’t worry about cleaning up there—just shut the door.

Assess the smells in your home.  (Cont. on page 2)
